    Abstract: The invention comprises a container for food products that extrudate liquids comprising a tray and a bowed insert. The tray bottom wall has at least one raised area, at least one lower surface, and at least one sidewall. A plurality of flutes are disposed on the inner surface sidewall(s). A plurality of elevated portions extend upwardly from the bowed insert. The insert is secured within the tray. A reservoir is defined between the insert and the tray bottom wall. The elevated portions of the insert, the flutes, and the at least one raised area of the tray bottom define a plurality of channels.

    Abstract: A heat sealing machine may include a heater assembly, a heat plate lock assembly supporting a heat plate in proximity to the heater assembly, and a lock mechanism allowing the heat plate lock assembly to alternately open and close. The heat plate may be replaced by a second heat plate by moving the lock mechanism to a retracted position, moving a heat plate lock assembly to move the first heat plate away from the heater assembly, removing the first heat plate from the heat plate lock assembly, inserting the second heat plate into the heat plate lock assembly, moving the heat plate lock assembly to move the second heat plate into engagement with the heater assembly, and moving the lock mechanism to a locked position to maintain the engagement between the second heat plate and the heater assembly.

    Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to recyclable, composite container assemblies with improved characteristics resulting from a combination of raw materials, structural design, systems, and methods for sealing a paper-based closure to a paper-based container body. The container assemblies demonstrate superior performance and seal properties, such as very low oxygen transmission rates and high resistance to bulging and/or damage due to high pressure differentials. The disclosed container assemblies, manufactured at high speeds, have been optimized by increasing the shelf-life of food products stored therein, while minimizing any non-paper materials such that the container assemblies qualify as recyclable mono-material.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a system and method for sealing a closure to a container comprising a die assembly, a mandrel assembly, and a gas evacuation assembly. The mandrel assembly comprises an outer mandrel and an inner mandrel. The outer mandrel is configured to vertically translate and constrain a closure in position. The gas evacuation assembly, which comprises at least one hollow channel within the die and one or more channel openings into the interior of the die, suctions gas from the interior of an aligned container when the closure is constrained in position. The inner mandrel translates vertically to insert the closure into the container and a sealing member seals the closure in place.

    Abstract: A package is described that includes a laminate structure with a first layer and a second layer. The first layer is adjacent a compartment of the package and includes a predefined cut through which access is provided to the contents of the package. The second layer includes an integrated pull strip that is at least partially defined by a line of weakness formed in the second layer. The pull strip overlies the predefined cut and is configured to be separated from a remainder of the second layer by a user. In this way, separation of the pull strip from the package (e.g., as the pull strip is peeled away from the package) may serve to expose the predefined cut and allows the first and second edges to be moved apart to provide access to the compartment and the contents stored therein via the predefined cut.
