    Abstract: Novel voltage converter circuits are provided which step-up very low DC input voltages to higher voltages capable of supporting low-power loads. According to embodiments, a voltage step-up power converter circuit may be formed of an oscillator sub-circuit which receives a DC voltage and outputs an AC voltage; a voltage doubler sub-circuit which receives the AC voltage and outputs an augmented AC voltage; and a voltage step-up converter sub-circuit which receives the augmented AC voltage, as a control voltage, and the initial DC voltage and outputs a voltage which is more than the initial DC voltage. These circuits allow electrical energy to be harvested from very low voltage sources and to convert it as efficiently as possible to run a load.

    Abstract: Time folding power combining circuits convert a continuous wave into a pulsed wave of greater peak power. Such a circuit may comprise: a switch which receives a continuous wave signal as input, and outputs first and second pulsed wave signals along first and second signal paths, respectively, said switch being configured to repeatedly switch connection back and forth between the input and the outputs of the first and second signal paths in a plurality of time frames; a delay line in the second signal path configured to introduce a time delay to the second pulsed wave signal in the second signal path such that the first pulsed wave signal in the first signal path and the time-delayed second pulsed wave signal in the second signal path substantially align in the same time frames; and a combiner, which receives the first pulsed wave signal in the first signal path and the time-delayed pulsed second wave signal in the second signal path as inputs, and combines them into a single combined pulsed wave signal as output.

    Abstract: A highly-conformal, pliable thin electromagnetic (EM) skin for altering at least one electromagnetic property of a surface includes a pliable thin film, and sub-wavelength elements incorporated into and/or on the pliable thin film which are smaller in scale than the wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation they are intended to influence. The electromagnetic skin readily conforms to contours of a surface to which it attaches or otherwise adheres to. Such electromagnetic skin can be used to cover various surface and platforms on equipment, walls, vehicles, and aircraft to change the electromagnetic properties of such surfaces to achieve certain functions that are not achievable with simple ground plane surfaces. The EM skin may be judiciously configured to alter at least one electromagnetic property of the surface by blocking, absorbing, enhancing, and/or bending waves of electromagnetic radiation.

    Abstract: A conical mirror concentrator is disclosed which is configured for use as a laser-cooled cooled atom source. According to embodiments, the conical mirror concentrator may comprise a body; a reflective inner conical surface formed on the body tapering from a large diameter at a first side of body inward to a smaller dimeter in an interior space of the body, wherein the inner conical surface focuses light to an axis within the interior space of the body; a hole extending from the interior space of the body near a pinnacle of the inner conical surface to a second, opposite side of body; and a structure configured to mount the concentrator to an ultra-high vacuum chamber, such as a CF (or Conflat) flange or an anodicly bonded glass plate.
