Abstract: The present subject matter relates to orthotic devices, systems, and methods configured to support a lumbar spine. In some embodiments, a lumbar spinal orthosis system includes a torso belt configured to be secured about a torso of a user, a pelvic belt configured to be secured about a pelvis of the user, and a distractive force mechanism connected between the torso belt and the pelvic belt. The distractive force mechanism is configured to generate a force between the torso belt and the pelvic belt acting bi-directionally across a lumbar spine of the user to substantially offload bodyweight of the user passing through the lumbar spine.

Abstract: Joints, such as adhesive and welded thermoplastic joints, comprising embedded and/or surface mounted components of a sensor system are provided. The embedded and/or surface mounted component can be an optical fiber. Strain and/or stress can be monitored in the joint in a spatially resolved manner periodically or continuously, for example, to warn of potential failure of the joint or estimate residual/remaining life of a bonded component. The stress and/or strain information can also be used to improve the design of the joint. Methods and systems for monitoring stress and/or strain in a joint, and methods of preparing the joints are provided, as well.

Abstract: Respective phasor values are recursively computed from respective ones of a series of signal samples for a node of a power system such that each phasor value is computed from a previously computed phasor value. Frequency values are recursively computed from the phasor values for respective ones of the signal samples. Recursive computing of frequency values may include computing respective phase angle values from respective ones of the phasor values, recursively computing coefficient values for a polynomial that fits the phase angle values, and recursively computing the frequency values from the coefficient values. The samples may be generated at a sampling rate and the phasor values and the frequency values may be produced at a rate that is the same as the sampling rate. Embodiments may provide methods, apparatus and computer readable media that implement such operations.

Abstract: Disclosed is a series self-resonant coil structure for wireless power transfer that includes a top coil element that is configured in a spiral and planar arrangement and a bottom coil element that is configured in a spiral and planar arrangement that is substantially similar to the arrangement corresponding to the top coil element, wherein the top coil element and the bottom coil element are positioned in a stacked arrangement in relation to each other. The coil structure further includes a dielectric layer element that is planarly positioned in between the top coil element and the bottom coil element, wherein the top coil element, the bottom coil element, and the dielectric layer element are aligned to produce series-resonance in the coil structure.
