    Abstract: Methods and apparatus enabling a wireless network to optimize paging channel operation, based on mobile device context information. In one embodiment, the wireless network is a cellular network (e.g., LTE-Advanced), and both base stations and cellular user devices dynamically exchange and maintain a paging agreement. The paging agreement limits the paging channel operation, thereby minimizing unnecessary scanning and usage of irrelevant radio resources. Such paging mechanisms are limited to the air interface between the base station and the mobile device, and are compatible with existing legacy devices and network entities. Networks with appropriately enabled user devices may improve their resource utilization. Base stations may advantageously reclaim freed-up cellular resources to support other services.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus adapted to address asymmetric conditions in a multi-antenna system. In one embodiment, the multi-antenna system comprises a wireless (e.g., 3G cellular) multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) system, and the methods and apparatus efficiently utilize transmitter and receiver resources based at least in part on a detected asymmetric condition. If an asymmetric condition is detected by the transmitter on any given data stream, the transmitter can decide to utilize only a subset of the available resources for that stream. Accordingly, the signal processing resources for that data stream are adapted to mirror the reduction in resources that are necessary for transmission. The transmitter signals the receiver that it will only be using a subset of the resources available, and the receiver adapts its operation according to the signaling data it receives. The multi-antenna system can therefore reduce power consumption as well as increasing spectral efficiency on the network.

    Abstract: Systems and methods of providing location techniques for a NB UE are described. The UE transmits, to a location server, a capability message that indicates position capabilities of the UE to support different positioning methods and common information related to the position methods, including that the UE is a NB UE. The UE receives a request for location information that includes a request for positioning measurements for a particular positioning method, a NB message size limit that indicates a limit on an amount of location information to return, and a NB response time to provide the positioning measurements. At least one of the response time or message size limit is different than for the NB UE than for non-NB UEs. The UE enters an idle state, performs the measurements, and transmits at expiry of or before the NB response time, a message containing the measurements.

    Abstract: Technology for a user equipment (UE), operable to generate an enhanced buffer status report (eBSR) is disclosed. The UE can identify packets for uplink transmission. The UE can filter the packets for uplink transmission, to identify a number of small packets pending for transmission and a number of larger packets, relative to the small packets, that are pending for transmission in the uplink transmission. The UE can encode the eBSR for transmission to a next generation node B (gNB), wherein the eBSR includes information identifying the number of small packets pending for transmission.     Abstract: Devices, methods, user equipment (UE), network core devices, gateway devices, evolved node B (eNB), and storage media for UE provisioning are described. In one embodiment, a UE is configured for codec bitrate adaptation via an interface configured to receive a bandwidth indication and a codec awareness indication from an eNB. The UE process the bandwidth indication and identifies, based on the codec awareness indication, a first codec from a plurality of codecs supported by the UE. The UE then configures with the eNB using data encoded with the first codec. This data may, for example, be Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) data or other such media data. Selection of the codec or associated codec information may be further based on the codec awareness indication.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus that reduce network management overhead required for the operation of wireless femtocells. In one aspect of the invention, a central network entity governs the simultaneous operation of several femtocells by specifying modes of operation, and operational parameters for one or more of the femtocells. In one embodiment, at least one of the specified modes of operation directs a femtocell to operate in a substantially autonomous manner within the network-defined operational parameters. The network-defined constraints are provided to the femtocell for example, responsive to a successful registration attempt.
