    Abstract: A cooling system includes a housing including a base portion with sides and a bottom surface that define a cavity and a cover portion to enclose the base portion and including cooling members attached thereto. A shield is arranged in the cavity. A vertical member is arranged below the shield to define a first fluid chamber between one side of the vertical member and one side of the base portion and a second fluid chamber between an opposite side of the vertical member and another side of the base portion. The electronic components are arranged in the second fluid chamber. Cooling fluid is arranged in the cavity and has a fluid level below at least a portion of the shield. The housing is mounted at an inclined angle relative to horizontal or the housing is mounted parallel to horizontal and the shield is mounted at the inclined angle.

    Abstract: A stator core assembly for an axial flux electric motor for an automobile includes a cylindrical outer case that defines a central axis, first and second disk shaped insulate frames axially spaced from one another and positioned within the outer case, each of the first and second insulate frames including a circular outer ring, a circular inner ring and a plurality of radial spokes extending between the outer ring and the inner ring and spaced circumferentially about the central axis, and a plurality of segmented core sections extending axially between the first and second insulate frames spaced circumferentially around and supported by the first and second insulate frames, wherein, a radial spoke is positioned between each adjacent pair of segmented core sections, and at least one radial spoke extends across each axial end of each one of the plurality of segmented core sections.

    Abstract: An axial flux motor having reduced spatial harmonics including a rotor with a plurality of magnets. A rotor shaft is coupled to the rotor. A stator faces the rotor and an air gap defined between the rotor and the stator. The stator includes a plurality of electromagnetic components defining a plurality of magnetic poles. The electromagnetic components include a plurality of posts, a plurality of slots, and a plurality of distributed electrically conductive windings disposed in and spanning across nonadjacent slots of the plurality of slots. At least one electrically conductive winding has a winding pitch span of greater than or equal to about 3 to less than or equal to about 20. The axial flux motor may include two rotors and one stator or alternatively two stators and one rotor. Such axial flux motors have short pitch provide desirable reduced spatial harmonics to enhance motor performance.
