Abstract: Disclosed is a CD player that ensures a setup operation and reproduction of information even when a partially recorded CD-R is set therein. The CD player sequentially performs the setup operation, starting from the first setup position located at the innermost periphery of the CD, predetermined for the setup operation, until the setup operation is complete at any of n-th (n=2, 3, . . . ) setup positions lying outwardly of the first setup position. If the setup operation is not completed even at an n-th setup position located at the outermost periphery of the CD, the CD player performs the setup operation again at at least one setup position lying inwardly of the n-th setup position. Also disclosed is a CD player that can discriminate a partially recorded, additionally recordable CD-R, and can execute the reproduction control for the PRD. This CD player discriminates a set disk as an additionally recordable one when a mirror-finished portion is detected in the control to detect the lead-in area or when the lead-in area cannot be detected and the TOC information cannot be read.

Abstract: The target follow-up device of the present invention is adapted quickly and reliably to follow up the position of a target which is moving at high speed. It incorporates an imaging sensor having a number of imaging elements, which performs photometry over the photographic field and which outputs input image data. Based upon this imaging sensor output, input image data for the target to be followed up are stored as reference image data by a memory device. Based upon minimum residue calculation between the input image data and the reference image data, the target follow-up device of the present invention determines the position of the target. In this determination operation, the target follow-up device selects at least one color from a plurality of colors contained in common by the input image data and the reference image data, and calculates the minimum residue for the selected color component.

Abstract: A power semiconductor device such as power thyristor including a semiconductor substrate which is clamped by first and second conductive members serving as the electrodes as well as heat sinks, and a plurality of heat pipes whose ends are inserted directly into the conductive members. A plurality of semiconductor substrates and temperature compensating plates are alternatively stacked on another and conductive members are provided on outermost temperature compensating plates to form an assembly. The assembly is hermetically sealed by an insulating package formed by an insulator having a corrugated outer surface such that outer surfaces of the conductive members are exposed out of the package. One or more heat pipes are inserted into the insulating package such that electrically insulating cooling medium filled in the heat pipes can be in direct contact with the semiconductor substrates. The heat pipes may be inserted into the conductive members or heat sinks provided in the assembly.

Abstract: A method of operating a disk player that reproduces information recorded on a disk. Programs on the disk are addressed from a directory in a memory and the programs are sequentially accessed according to the order in the directory. The directory can be filled by inserting random numbers or by scanning through the programs or over the tracks. A table of contents at the beginning of the disk is read if possible. The tracks can be scanned and only tracks having new programs are reproduced. Also a playback position servo operates with a dead-zone in the drive voltage.

Abstract: An electronic wrist watch having a sound producing unit and an electrooptic data display unit, has a single flat plate member a lower surface of which is contacted with a user's hand, and a case member which is attached to one end of the plate member so as to be freely opened and closed over the plate member. Abstract: Address search method for use in a disk player repeatedly performing a track jump operation for jumping over a plurality of recording tracks at one time. The present method changes to a jump state from a locking state in which a tracking servo system of the disk player is locked so that an information reading light spot of a pickup of the disk player follows a recording track. Subsequently, a present address obtained from read output of the pickup is compared with a target address and the tracking servo system is placed in the locking state. The preceding steps for comparing the addresses are repeated until the target address is exceeded by the present address.
