Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes a display unit, an illumination unit, a measurement unit, and a control unit. When pixels that are expected to perform display output at identical luminance are adjacent to each other in adjacent partial regions, and when a difference in the intensity of the internal light between light emitting regions corresponding to the adjacent partial regions is equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold, the control unit performs correction to increase luminance of a predetermined number of pixels belonging to a first partial region corresponding to a first light emitting region the intensity of the internal light from which is lower among the adjacent partial regions. The predetermined number of pixels are located closer to a second partial region corresponding to a second light emitting region the intensity of the internal light from which is higher among the adjacent partial regions.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel including a reflective layer, a liquid crystal element opposing the display panel and a controller that controls the liquid crystal element. The liquid crystal element includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a first control electrode, a second control electrode, a third control electrode, and a fourth control electrode. The controller applies a first voltage for forming a first lens of a first shape, to the first control electrode and the second control electrode, and a second voltage for forming a second lens of a second shape, to the third control electrode and the fourth control electrode. The first shape is different from the second shape.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a display apparatus includes: a plurality of light sources; a display device that includes a display area provided with n1 pixels and that is irradiated with light from the light sources; a light source controller controlling an operation of the light sources; and a display controller controlling an output gradation value of part or all of the pixels. The display area includes a plurality of partial areas, the partial areas corresponding to the light sources on a one-to-one basis. The light source controller determines the amount of light emitted from each light source corresponding to a corresponding one of the partial areas based on luminance of light required for the corresponding partial area. The display controller performs first correction and second correction when the amounts of light emitted from two light sources corresponding to two adjacent partial areas are different.

Abstract: A display device includes: an image display panel including pixels each including a first to a forth sub-pixel that display a first color to a fourth color; and a signal processing unit. The signal processing unit stores an expanded color space, determines maximum set brightness as an upper limit value of brightness displayable within a range of the brightness in the expanded color space so that the maximum set brightness increases as a panel average input value decreases, determines an input expansion coefficient for expanding the color displayed by the image display panel to a color of the maximum set brightness, obtains the output signal of the first to forth sub-pixel based on the input signal of the first to third sub-pixel and the input expansion coefficient. The expanded color space is a color space that can extend a color of brightness higher than that in a standard color space.
