Abstract:
A system for analyzing an electronic circuit described by characterization data forms an interpolation/approximation function over an analysis interval for analyzing the electronic circuit. An edge detection is applied to the characterization data to determine edges in the data, with the detected edges as subinterval limits used to form subinterval functions which define the interpolation/approximation function. The interpolation/approximation function is continuously differentiable and monotonous in the subintervals.

Abstract:
A food slicing machine including a housing and a disc-shaped knife which is mounted for rotation on the housing. An adjusting device moves a stop plate relative to the cutting plane of the knife to set the slice thickness. A food carriage reciprocates adjacent the knife and is pivotable between a slice cutting position and a fully retracted position. A locking disc is connected to the adjusting device and includes a slot of uniform width extending from the periphery in a generally radial direction. A locking element which is slightly smaller than the slot is arranged to enter the slot responsive to pivoting of the carriage out of the slice cutting position. Upon setting the adjusting device to a slice thickness of zero, the slot is aligned with the locking element. A relatively small amount of pivoting of the carriage from the slice cutting position toward the fully retracted position causes the locking element to enter the slot and prevent substantial rotation of the adjusting device in either direction.
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided for uniformly and rapidly heating, pasteurizing and/or sterilizing food products which comprises a conveyor on which the food products are conveyed and a source of radio-frequency radiation which is directed at the food products. The source is connected to shaped electrodes, the shaping of the electrodes and their spacing from the food product being selected in dependence upon the configuration and irradiation required of the product being treated. The food product may be a pre-cooked meal comprising a plurality of constituents and the electrode is then shaped to take into account the geometry of the different constituents and in combination with the spacing of the electrode from the product, takes the heating requirements of the individual components into account.
Abstract:
Glucose-containing products can be manufactured in apparatus comprising a continuous screw conveyor member rotatable in a continuous press cylinder having three regions in cascade arrangement between an intake opening and an output opening. The regions comprise an intake region for the rapid and economical intake of different kinds of products, a compression region for building up a very high pressure of from about 20 to 300 bars for disintegrating the products and for heating the product by intensive shearing thereof to a temperature of up to 250.degree. C., and a catalyst injection region for intensive action on and mixing or hydrolysis of the cellulosic substances with trifluoroacetic acid or the like injected through nozzles. Thus glucose-containing products can be hydrolyzed by the action of trifluoroacetic acid, in apparatus in which all the working steps to be carried out can be performed continuously, without having to use individual pieces of equipment such as soaking containers, boilers, refiners and corresponding connecting ducts and valves.

Cardioactive cardenolide-bis-digitoxosides of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an acyloxy radical containing up to 3 carbon atoms, andR.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each independently is a hydrogen atom, an acyl radical containing up to 3 carbon atoms, with the proviso that the compound contains at least one alkyl radical. The compounds exhibit desirable rates of excretion, primarily extrarenally.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for converting, i.e. hydrogenating, dry particles of coal with hydrogen to give hydrocarbons such as engine or heating fuels. The invention combines together several steps in the hydrogenation process, such as compressing the dry coal, heating, plasticized and hydrogenating, in one apparatus. The apparatus comprises a housing, preferably a cylinder containing a feed and preparation portion of a chamber with a rotatable friction element therein and an immediately adjoining hydrogenation portion of the chamber with a rotating rotor therein and with static mixing nozzles projecting thereinto, through which nozzles heated hydrogen can be injected into the coal which has been brought, by the friction element into a heated, plastic state. The friction element and rotor can be driven by a single drive means, the feed and preparation portion of the chamber can be fed with coal from a hopper through a wheel lock and the hydrocarbon products can be ejected through a valve into a separator.
