Abstract:
The present disclosure provides processes for the production of substituted phenylene aromatic diesters and the resultant compositions. The processes include reacting an aromatic diol with an aromatic carboxylic acid or a derivative thereof. The aromatic diol and/or the aromatic carboxylic acid (or derivative thereof) is/are substituted. The reaction forms a substituted phenylene aromatic diester with the structure (II): wherein R1-R14 are the same or different. At least one of R1-R14 is selected from a substituted hydrocarbyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a heteroatom, and combinations thereof.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to the production of 5-tert-butyl-3-methyl-1,2-phenylene dibenzoate and the purification thereof. Synthesis pathways for a precursor to 5-tert-butyl-3-methyl-1,2-phenylene dibenzoate are provided. The precursor is 5-tert-butyl-3-methylcatechol.
Abstract:
Disclosed are propylene impact copolymer compositions, articles thereof, and processes for producing same. Polymerization with an improved catalyst composition provides a propylene impact copolymer with high melt flow and low volatiles content.
Abstract:
A catalyst composition for the polymerization of propylene comprising one or more Ziegler-Natta procatalyst compositions comprising one or more transition metal compounds and one or more monoesters of aromatic carboxylic acid internal electron donors; one or more aluminum containing cocatalyst; and a mixture of two or more different selectivity control agents, said SCA mixture comprising from 70 to 98 mol percent of one or more esters of one or more aromatic monocarboxylic acids or substituted derivatives thereof, and from 30 to 2 mol percent of one or more alkoxysilane compounds containing one or more 5- or 6-membered cyclic groups optionally containing one or more Group 14, 15 or 16 heteroatoms.
Abstract:
A method of making a solid procatalyst composition for use in a Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization catalyst composition, said method comprising: contacting a precursor composition comprising a magnesium compound with a titanium halide compound and an internal electron donor in any order, in a suitable reaction medium to prepare a solid procatalyst composition, separating the solid procatalyst from the reaction medium, extracting the solid procatalyst composition by contacting the same one or more times with a liquid diluent at an elevated temperature for a period of time sufficient to prepare a solid procatalyst composition having a decreased titanium content compared to the titanium content of the solid procatalyst composition before said extraction, and recovering the solid procatalyst composition.
Abstract:
A catalyst composition for the polymerization of propylene is provided. The catalyst composition includes one or more Ziegler-Natta procatalyst compositions having one or more transition metal compounds and an internal electron donor, one or more aluminum containing cocatalysts, and a selectivity control agent (SCA). The SCA is a mixture of an activity limiting agent (ALA) and selectivity determining agent (SDA) such as a non-silane composition. The present catalyst composition is silane-free, has high catalyst activity and high stereoselectivity, and is self-extinguishing.
Abstract:
Synthesis pathways for a precursor to 5-tert-butyl-3-methyl-1, 2-phenylene dibenzoate are provided. The precursor is methylcatechol and/or 5-tert-butyl-3-methylcatechol.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are processes for preparing procatalyst compositions which include multiple contact steps in the presence of a substituted phenylene aromatic diester and at least one other internal electron donor. The multi-contact procatalyst compositions produced from the present processes improve polymer properties and polymerization parameters. In particular, the present multi-contact procatalyst compositions improve polymer bulk density.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for producing a procatalyst composition having an amide ester internal electron donor. The process includes pre-halogenating a procatalyst precursor before reaction with the amide ester and forming the procatalyst composition. Ziegler-Natta catalyst compositions containing the present procatalyst composition exhibit improved catalyst activity and/or improved catalyst selectivity and produce propylene-based olefins with broad molecular weight distribution.
Abstract:
Disclosed are catalyst compositions having an internal electron donor which includes a 3,6-di-substituted-1,2-phenylene aromatic diester. Ziegler-Natta catalyst compositions containing the present catalyst compositions exhibit very high hydrogen response, high activity, high selectivity and produce propylene-based olefins with high melt flow rate.
