Abstract: An apparatus may include an ultrasonic sensor array, a light source system and a control system. Some implementations may include an ultrasonic transmitter. The control system may be operatively configured to control the light source system to emit light that induces acoustic wave emissions inside a target object. The control system may be operatively configured to select a first acquisition time delay for the reception of acoustic wave emissions primarily from a first depth inside the target object. The control system may be operatively configured to acquire first ultrasonic image data from the acoustic wave emissions received by the ultrasonic sensor array during a first acquisition time window. The first acquisition time window may be initiated at an end time of the first acquisition time delay.

Abstract: A mobile device may include a first fingerprint sensor, including a platen, residing on a first side of the mobile device, and a display residing on a second side of the mobile device. The second side may be opposite from the first side. The mobile device may include a control system configured for communication with the first fingerprint sensor and the display. The control system may be further configured for receiving first fingerprint sensor signals from the first fingerprint sensor corresponding to a fingerprint contact area of a first finger positioned on the platen, for detecting one or more finger distortions corresponding to changes of the first fingerprint sensor signals and for controlling the mobile device based, at least in part, on the one or more finger distortions.

Abstract: An array of piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer elements includes a plurality of superpixel regions. Each superpixel region includes at least two pixel sets, a first pixel set of the at least two pixel sets being disposed in a central portion of the superpixel region, and at least a second pixel set being disposed in an outer portion of the superpixel region. An electrical coupling may be provided between the array and transceiver electronics. The transceiver electronics may be configured to operate the array in a selectable one of a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the array generates a substantially plane ultrasonic wave having a first acoustic pressure. In the second mode, the array generates, from each superpixel region, a focused beam having a second acoustic pressure that is substantially higher than the first acoustic pressure.

The control system may be further configured for controlling the ultrasonic sensor system to transmit ultrasonic waves, receiving ultrasonic sensor signals from the ultrasonic sensor system corresponding to ultrasonic waves reflected from a portion of a body in contact with the platen, receiving bioimpedance measurements from the set of bioimpedance electrodes and estimating a status of one or more biometric indicators of the portion of the body based on the ultrasonic sensor signals and the bioimpedance measurements.

Abstract: An apparatus includes an array of pixels, each pixel including in-cell pixel logic and a piezoelectric micromechanical ultrasonic transducer (PMUT) element, each in-cell pixel logic being communicatively coupled with at least one adjacent pixel in the array. Transceiver electronics may operate the array in a selectable one of a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the array may generate a substantially plane ultrasonic wave. In the second mode, the array may generate, from at least one superpixel region, a focused beam of relatively high acoustic pressure, each superpixel region including at least one inner pixel disposed in a central portion of the superpixel region and at least a first group of outer pixels disposed in an outer portion of the superpixel region. The transceiver electronics may be configured to operate the array by configuring at least one in-cell pixel logic.

Abstract: An apparatus or a system may include an ultrasonic sensor array, a radio frequency (RF) source system and a control system. Some implementations may include a light source system and/or an ultrasonic transmitter system. The control system may be capable of controlling the RF source system to emit RF radiation and of receiving signals from the ultrasonic sensor array corresponding to acoustic waves emitted from portions of a target object in response to being illuminated with the RF radiation. The control system may be capable of acquiring ultrasonic image data from the acoustic wave emissions received from the target object.
