Abstract: A method of extruding a cross-linked material, more particularly an insulating cross-linked material around an electrical cable. In an extrusion machine comprising a housing terminated with an extrusion head and provided with a filtering means adjacent the outlet end of said housing, the cross-linkable product is fed without addition of a cross-linking agent, said cross-linking agent being first introduced in said cross-linkable material downstream said filtering means. The cross-linkable material is kept in the housing at an elevated temperature to be in a fluid state, the cross-linking agent being introduced at a temperature slightly lower than its reaction temperature, whereby the extrudate may be at a temperature near the maximum temperature admissible for the extrusion of said material.

Abstract: A tire rubber extruder automatic loading and management system is provided for continuous and automatic control of a rubber extrusion line. Batches of rubber slab material, whether for sidewall or tread, are connected in an automated manner to provide a continuous material stream for feeding a tread extruder supply conveyor within a tire manufacturing system. Joiner between adjacent slabs are implemented utilizing a stitched joint of material. Stitch pins are driven through both rubber slab layers to a specific depth into a clearance hole to create an optimized rubber mechanical adhesion zone. The result is a funnel shaped adhesion channel penetrating entirely through the layers of material perpendicular to the direction slab movement and tension. The resulting “rivet” like button structures are extremely strong, have no Impurities that could otherwise be added via adhesives, and can be formed in an automated manner within the available process cycle times.

Abstract: A method of forming a conduit having at least one strip-shaped fabric substrate dividing the conduit into channels. The method contains obtaining an extrusion die configured to form the wall of the conduit and a slot configured for receipt of a strip-shaped fabric substrate and introducing a strip-shaped fabric substrate into the slot. The strip-shaped textile is air permeable and contains enlarged regions at the first and second longitudinal edges. Molten polymer is introduced at a first point in the extrusion die and at the first point the slot and the area configured to form the wall of the conduit are not in communication. The slot is exposed to the molten polymer at a point between the first point and the die exit forming the first polymeric layer of the conduit such that the first longitudinal and second longitudinal edges of the strip-shaped fabric substrate embed into the molten polymer.

Abstract: A moisture resistant light tube assembly for use in forming a moisture resistant LED light tube. The light tube assembly includes a rear component with an elongated heat sink having a flat strip upon which an LED circuit board (or boards) may be placed under pressure legs formed of a polymer for maintaining the circuit board in thermal contact with the heat sink. A polymer lens provides a dome over the rear component. The light tube assembly is formed by co-extrusion of a polymer shell around the heat sink, co-extrusion of the polymer pressure legs to the polymer shell and co-extrusion of the dome to the rear component from one or more polymers selected for their ability to be bonded together by co-extrusion.
