A muffler is capable of sufficiently reducing flow noise, discharge noise, vehicle noise, and cabin noise, preventing a pressure loss, and improving output power. The muffler has a muffler body, an upstream pipe that opens in the muffler body, and a downstream pipe that opens in the muffler body. An opening is formed in a side wall of the downstream pipe in the muffler body. The opening consists of many small holes arranged in an elongated area extending in an axial direction of the downstream pipe.

The present invention is an exhaust system having a parallelogram-shaped cross section. The exhaust system includes a header flange for connection to one or more cylinder exhaust ports. The header flange is coupled to one or more conduits. The conduits merge into a collector, which may or may not include a muffler.
Abstract:
An exhaust system sound-reducing component for use with a silencer on an off-road vehicle. The component includes an adapter, an exhaust extension and a U-joint that connects the adapter with the extension. The adapter includes an exhaust port that communicates with the atmosphere and a discharge opening that communicates with the exhaust extension. One portion of the exhaust and sound from the silencer is transmitted the exhaust port while another portion is transmitted through the discharge opening in the adaptor, through the exhaust passage, the U-joint and the exhaust extension and out to the atmosphere. As such, any sound traveling with the exhaust exiting the exhaust port of the chamber will be out of phase with any sound exiting the exhaust opening. This out of phase action of the sound results in reduced noise levels.

An internal combustion engine, especially of a two-stroke engine in a portable handheld work apparatus, includes an outlet (27) for the exhaust gases which is fluidly connected with at least one inlet opening (13, 14) in an exhaust-gas muffler (1). At least one resonance pipe (6, 7) is mounted in flow direction between the outlet (27) from the engine (20) and the inlet opening (3, 5) into the exhaust-gas muffler (1) in order to obtain a good noise attenuating result and simultaneously make possible an advantageous, space-saving mounting of the engine (20).

A muffler comprises a casing and an exhaust pipe penetrating the casing. An exhaust gas chamber 4 is defined between the outer wall surface of the exhaust pipe and the inner wall surface of the casing. In the exhaust pipe positioned in the casing, an enlarged chamber for accommodating a particulate filter is formed. A downstream side portion of the exhaust pipe and the exhaust gas chamber are communicated with each other by a branch pipe. A communicating port is formed on the wall of an upstream side portion of the exhaust pipe positioned in the exhaust gas chamber. Until the pressure difference between the upstream and downstream of the communication control valve reaches a threshold value, the communication control valve is kept closed to close the communicating port and, thus, the exhaust gas flows through the particulate filter. When the pressure difference has reached the threshold value, the communication control valve is opened by the pressure in the upstream side portion to open the communicating port and, thus, a part of the exhaust gas bypasses the particulate filter.

A flattened acoustic muffler for use on stock cars. The muffler mounts to the standard exhaust system pipes and to the lower chassis of the car, routing exhaust gasses to one or both sides of the car while providing improved ground clearance between the exhaust pipe and the surface of the race track. The muffler contains a plurality of spiral acoustic traps, which attenuate exhaust noise while producing little additional backpressure.

A muffler (1) intended for portable working tools, preferably chain saws, in which the muffler is mounted directly to the exhaust gas outlet (3) of the cylinder (2). The muffler is provided with at least one upstream partition wall (4, 5) at the muffler's inlet (6) from the cylinder and arranged essentially laterally in relation to the engine's cylinder bore (7), so that the partition wall (4) separates an upper fraction (8) above it, i.e. in the direction towards the upper side of the cylinder, and a lower fraction below it, i.e. in the opposite direction, and this dividing into two or several fractions (8, 9, 10) is kept maintained through a great deal of the muffler from the inlet to a number of outlets (11, 12, 13).
