Abstract:
IMPREGNATING POROUS CERAMIC ARTICLES WITH NONCOLLOIDAL CERAMIC PARTICLES COMPRISING, PREPARING A SUSPENSION IN A CARRIER FLUID OF NONCOLLOIDAL CERAMIC PARTICLES, IMMERSING THE CERAMIC ARTICLES IN THE SLURRY, MAINTAINING SAID PARTICLES DISPERSED, AND AGITATING THE SLURRY FOR SUFFICIENT PERIOD OF TIME TO IMPREGNATE AT LEAST A PORTION OF THE CERAMIC ARTICLES.
Abstract:
An integral, preferably cast steel center plate includes a generally rectangular flat base portion defining spaced mounting flanges on opposite edges. A central circular boss extends from one face of the base, for engagement with a mating center plate bowl, and a pair of beams extending from the one face between the mounting flanges on opposite sides of the boss. In assembly to a car underframe, the mounting plate flanges are bolted to the longitudinal supporting flanges of the center sill with the beams stiffening the center plate for better resistance of eccentric forces.
Abstract:
A method of determining the existence and quantity of an element in a formation. A portion of the formation is irradiated with neutrons and the gamma rays emanating from the formation due to induced radio-activity, or ''''activation'''' from thermal neutron capture by the element of interest are detected and recorded. The thermal neutron capture cross section of the formation is determined. The product of the gamma ray emission and the thermal neutron capture cross section is obtained as a quantitative indication of the element''s abundance in the formation.
Abstract:
A SPLIT HOUSING INCLUDING IMPROVED SEALING MEANS FORMING A FLUID-TIGHT SEAL BETWEEN A CIRCULAR END MEMBER AND A PAIR OF MATING SEMICYLINDRICAL HOUSING OR CASING MEMBERS. THE IMPROVED HOUSING/SEALING ARRANGEMENT INCLUDES AN END PLATE, A SPLIT CASING SUCH AS IS UTILIZED ON HIGH PRESSURE, TURBINE-TYPE COMPRESSORS, AN ANNULAR MEMBER CARRYING A DEFORMABLE SEAL HAVING A DIAMETER LESS THAN THE INNER DIAMETER OF THE CASING AND MEANS FOR DEFORMING THE SEAL INTO SEALING ENGAGEMENT WITH THE END PLATE AND CASING.
Abstract:
The formations surrounding a well bore are subjected to hydraulic fracturing. A liquified gas and a fluid containing entrained propping agents are injected into the formations. The liquified gas returns to its gaseous state and is therefore easily removed from the formation.
Abstract:
A plurality of passages transmit fluid end to end in the reamerstabilizer body. Individual cutters are mounted on hollow shafts affixed to the reamer-stabilizer body. A circular passage transmits fluid to the center of the hollow shafts. Holes connect the outside of each shaft with the hollow central portion. Spiral grooves are located longitudinally on the inside diameter of the cutter.
Abstract:
An apparatus for boring large diameter holes. A drilling mechanism is pivotally mounted on a base and arranged so that it may drill at any angle from the horizontal, either up or down. Means are provided to divert the drilling residue and loose rock and a drill pipe positioning system installs and removes sections of the drill pipe.
Abstract:
A bit for drilling a large diameter hole has a replaceable stem. The body of the bit includes a multiplicity of stages around a central axis. The bit is attached to the drill column by a replaceable stem connected to the main body of the bit and the body of the bit includes a series of plates separated by a series of hollow support elements.
Abstract:
A plurality of explosive charges are positioned in an instrument to be lowered into a well. An electrical detonation system is connected to each explosive charge. A hydraulic system controls switches in the electrical system.
Abstract:
A logging apparatus having a subsurface instrument with a partially shielded source and a separate partially shielded detector, both of which contact the borehole wall. Structure combined with the source provides means whereby a neutron log or acoustic log may be obtained in conjunction with the basic measurement.
