Abstract: An optical device includes first and second optical elements rotatable with respect to each other around a geometric optical axis of the optical device. The first optical element includes a first surface for modifying a distribution of light exiting the first optical element, and the second optical element includes a second surface facing towards the first surface and for further modifying the distribution of the light. One of the first and second surfaces includes convex areas whereas the other one of these surfaces includes concave areas so that an optical effect of the optical device is changeable by rotating the first and second optical elements with respect to each other. The first and second optical elements include sliding surfaces for mechanically supporting the second optical element with respect to first optical element in radial directions perpendicular to the geometric optical axis.

Abstract: An optical device (201) comprises a lens (205) having a light ingress surface (206) and a light egress surface (207). The light ingress surface comprises one or more V-shaped projections on a center area (208) of the light ingress surface and the light ingress surface is free from corners on areas (209) outside the center area. Each V-shaped projection is shaped so that a surface penetration takes place when a light beam arrives at a side surface of the V-shaped projection and a total internal reflection takes place when the light beam arrives at the other side surface of the V-shaped projection. Thus, obliquely arriving light beams emitted by edge areas of a light emitting surface (213) of a light source (202) are mixed better with light beams emitted by other areas of the light emitting surface. Therefore, undesired color variations within a light distribution pattern are reduced.

Abstract: An optical device includes a center section having a lens portion for modifying distribution of a first part of light emitted by a light source, and a peripheral section surrounding the center section and including a conical surface for modifying distribution of a second part of the light emitted by the light source. The conical surface includes ridges where total internal reflection takes place when a light beam arrives from the light source at one of side surfaces of each ridge, and surface penetration takes place when the reflected light beam arrives at the other side surface of the ridge under consideration. Thus, the conical surface acts both as a reflective surface and as a refractive surface for achieving a desired light distribution pattern.

Abstract: A device for modifying light distribution includes a transparent body including a first surface, a second surface on an opposite side of the transparent body, and a third surface joining the first surface. The second surface defines a cavity opening away from the first surface. The second surface reflects, towards the third surface, at least a part of light received via the first surface. The third surface reflects, towards the second surface, the light reflected from the second surface. The second surface acts as a light egress surface for the light reflected from the third surface. The third surface includes a groove so that a part of the light reflected from the second surface propagates across the groove prior to being reflected from the third surface. The light distribution can be tuned by adjusting the shape, the size, and/or the location of the groove.
