Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer storage media for discovering authoritative images of people entities are provided. Selections of person entities are received. Authoritative URLs and authoritative images for the person entities are identified. Once the authoritative images are identified, features are extracted. Queries for the person entities are identified by mining search engine logs. The queries and features can be utilized to construct candidate queries to identify and retrieve candidate image URLs. Candidate features are extracted for each candidate image associated with the candidate image URLs. Training data may be utilized to train a classifier that can be run on each candidate image. Each candidate image can then be tagged with an entity ID tag. Images with the entity ID tag can be ranked higher in search engine results page than images without the entity ID tag.

Abstract: A content rewriting system is described herein that allows web site administrators to setup rewriting of web responses in an easy and efficient manner. The system provides a configuration schema and an efficient workflow that enables web administrators to easily setup rules to modify HTML or other content without having a high performance penalty or losing flexibility. The content rewriting system applies regular expressions or wildcard patterns to a response to locate and replace the content parts based on the rewriting logic expressed by outbound rewrite rules. The system parses an initial response generated by a web application, applies one or more outbound rules to rewrite the response, and provides the rewritten response to a client that submitted a request for the response.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for switching protocols at a local client without having to delete the existing client account and without having to create a new client account that specifies the new protocol. The client an application executing on the client is configured with the capability to dynamically switch between protocols. For example, the client or an application executing on the client may employ a remote procedure call (RPC) protocol and may dynamically switch to a hypertext transfer (HTTP) protocol or vice versa upon request of the server.

Abstract: Innovations in encoder-side options for intra block copy (“BC”) prediction mode facilitate intra BC prediction that is more effective in terms of rate-distortion performance and/or computational efficiency of encoding. For example, some of the innovations relate to estimation of sample values within an overlap area of a current block during block vector estimation. Other innovations relate to prediction of block vector (“BV”) values during encoding or decoding using “ping-pong” approaches.

Abstract: Various technologies pertaining to exploratory suggestions are described herein. A computer-implemented graph is constructed, where the graph includes nodes that are representative of aspects and edges that are representative of associations between aspects. An aspect is representative of a sub-topic of a topic or a sub-task of a task. The computer-implemented graph is learned based upon content of search logs, and is used to output exploratory suggestions, where a user is exploring a topic or attempting to complete a multi-step task.

Abstract: Captured data can be transformed and augmented for a particular presentation in a document, such as a note of a notebook application, based on an identified entity for the captured data. The particular presentation of captured data can be provided based on entity detection, extraction, and knowledge base resolution and retrieval. Methods, systems, and services are provided that identify a primary entity of an item input to a notebook application and create an entity object for the primary entity of the item at least from one or more structured representations for content associated with the item. A template for presenting the entity object can be determined according to the primary entity, where the template is selected from a set of templates corresponding to different primary entities such that an arrangement and presentation for one primary entity is different than that of another primary entity.
