Abstract: An intraocular lens arrangement having positive or negative lens with a frame that extends from the lens to provide diametrically opposed upper and lower frame sections. A first lens linkage has its first end attached to the upper frame section with at least two points of contact with the upper frame section. A second lens linkage has its first end attached to the lower frame section with at least two points of contact with the lower frame section. A second end of said first lens linkage and a second end of the second lens linkage are attached to a sulcus or zonule member to provide relatively large movement of the lens with a small movement of the ciliary muscle during accomodation response of the eye, and wherein the movements during the accommodation response are along the optical axis of the eye and are controlled in order to improve the image on the retina of objects viewed by the eye over a wide range of distances. The lens is preferably a positive lens with the appropriate frame. The haptics that connect the frame to the sulcus member is at least two pairs of haptics or alternatively a pair of single curved haptics that each have a sulcus connecting member. The intraocular lens cand contain a positive lens as note above along with a negative lens.

Abstract: A method and system for administering a secure, Internet based examination at remote sites is disclosed. The examination is dynamic and potentially adaptive. During the examination session, the state of the examination is maintained with the use of cookies, which are updated and stored on the central server at a predefined interval during the examination. Individual examination sessions may be restored to their previous state in the event of a malfunction.

Abstract: An intra ocular lens arrangement having positive and negative lens elements which move during the eye's accommodation response in order to improve the image on the retina of objects viewed by the eye over a wide range of distances. The positive and negative lens elements either can be linked mechanically to constrain their relative movements or not linked. The lenses are positioned by an operating surgeon following cataract extraction in either the eye's ciliary sulcus or lens capsule. Alternatively, one of the lenses may be inserted into an eye that already has a lens implanted therein to further improve a person's vision. An improved intra ocular lens has is an optic lens having at least two pairs of haptics that controls the movement of the optic lens along the optical axis of the eye in response to the movement of the ciliary muscle of the eye acting on the haptics during the accommodation response, one pair of haptics having one end hinged to the lower half of the optic lens and the second end connected to an upper portion of the ciliary muscle, and a second pair of haptics hinged to an upper half of the optic lens and to a lower potion of the ciliary muscle.

Abstract: A system for the duplication of binary data onto CD-R disks, the system including a copy unit, a host computer and computer software, the software being installed in the host computer to provide a user interface and to direct the transfer of data from the host computer to the copy unit, the copy unit including a set of multiple stacked recordable disk drives, a microprocessor electronically connected to the activating mechanism of a pivotal transport tower and to the set of multiple stacked recordable disk drives. A robotic disk pickup head on the pivotal transport tower is encompassed by a set of disk spindle members arranged in a symmetric semi-circular pattern around the central tower, the disk pickup head being connected to the pivotal transport tower with an elevator mechanism for lifting and transporting compact disks among the disk spindle members and any selected one of the stacked recordable disk drive members. The microprocessor concurrently directs the movement of the disk pickup head and the copying of data to the CD-R disks in the disk drive members. After a disk copy operation is completed, the computer software and microprocessor may direct the stacked recordable disk drive members to inspect the burned CD-R disks for copy errors and further direct the disk pickup head to remove and eject defective burned CD-R disks and place properly burned CD-R disks on a specified disk spindle member. The system allows for source data to be read from multiple master compact disks inserted in specified stacked recordable disk drive members to provide for random access copying from the multiple master compact disks.

Abstract: A number of methods and systems for overcoming stiction are provided. The systems include electro-mechanical systems capable of exerting a variety of forces upon areas prone to stiction. The systems can be MEMS arrays or other types of devices where stiction related forces occur. The methods include a variety of ways of causing movement in areas prone to stiction forces. Such movement can be vibrational in nature and is sufficient to overcome stiction, allowing a trapped element to be moveed to a desired location.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system of head and spine protection conceptually different from, and superior to, the traditional free-floating helmet concept, for use in high impact physical activities, such as such as football, hockey, lacrosse, motorcycling, downhill skiing, bobsledding/luge, cycling, snowmobiling, race car driving, factory/construction activities, firefighting, skydiving, and training/battlefield activities by the military and law enforcement officers. The head dome and connection system provides a clear or tinted, impact-proof, projectile-proof bubble over the head and neck, which is secured firmly to the wearer's shoulders and torso via a connection system of straps to a harness, or to the waistline/upper thighs. The head is protected from impact against the inside of the dome by a cushioned cap, secured in place with a chin strap. The head dome can contain, in various embodiments, climate controlling features, solution-treated surfaces to prevent visual obfuscation from fog/ice/water beads, heat resistant construction for firefighting applications, radio/digital communication options, and a self-contained breathing apparatus. The head dome and connection system thus keeps the entire face, head, neck and cervical/upper thoracic portion of the spine free from the injurious impacts from exterior forces, objects and projectiles, while preserving the wearer's freedom of head movement, unobstructed vision, enhanced communication options, and comfort. Inside the head dome, the wearer's head and neck movement and interaction with his or her surroundings are virtually as unimpeded as if there were no head protection whatsoever.
