Abstract:
In a zip fastener the elements (10) on one tape have a head which engages a shoulder (20) of an opposed element to limit out of plane movement. A small number of elements (30) have a head (38) which bears on a shoulder 46 when twisted in one direction but passes the shoulder (46) when twisted in the opposite direction to allow partial separation of the elements to create a point of weakness. The coupled elements can be peeled apart when sufficient pressure is applied to one side of the tape at the point of weakness, but the elements resist twisting when pressure is applied to the opposite side.

Abstract:
A composition comprising a polymer selected from a polyolefin, a polyamide or mixtures thereof, in admixture with an acrylic polymer additive, wherein: the extensional viscosity of the composition is greater than the extensional viscosity of the same composition not containing the acrylic polymer additive; or, the shear viscosity of the composition is greater than the shear viscosity of the same composition not containing the acrylic polymer additive; or, both the extensional viscosity and the shear viscosity of the composition is greater than the extensional viscosity and shear viscosity, respectively, of the same composition not containing the acrylic polymer additive, when measured at an identical applied specific shear rate in the range of 3000 S−1 to 500 S−1 under substantially the same conditions.
Abstract:
A laminated film in which a metal foil is sandwiched between two polymeric films is cold formed to define one or more blisters, and the base of the blister stamped with indicia, in two discrete stages. The blister is formed in the first stage using a standard technique of advancing a pin in a direction transverse relative to the plane of the film. According to the invention, once the blister forming stage is completed, indicia are stamped into the base of the blister in the second stage by advancing a die from one side thereof to clamp the blister base against a mold held against the other side. The direction of the die and disposition of the die and mold may be selected such that the indicia project inwardly or outwardly from the blister base.
Abstract:
A control arrangement for a multilevel convertor employs an AC reference signal which is locked to the AC system frequency and is compared with a number of DC threshold levels. Intersections of the reference signal and threshold levels triggers the firing and turning-off of GTOs within the convertor to produce the desired multilevel voltage output. Normal changes in system voltage, for example, are compensated by variation of the phase relationship of the reference signal with respect to the system voltage, and/or of the voltage values of the threshold levels. Sudden and drastic changes, especially reductions, in system voltage level are sensed and used to alter the amplitude of the reference signal so as to reduce the difference between the convertor multilevel voltage and the system voltage, thereby reducing the stress on the GTOs during faults.
Abstract:
A readily burstable slide fastener for an inflatable device, such as a lifejacket, that includes a first stringer, a second stringer and a slider slidably mounted on the second stringer. At a weakened region along the slide fastener coupling elements are omitted from each of the stringers so that when a bursting force is applied to this region the coupling elements adjacent thereto are disengaged. The coupling elements are omitted from the top of the first stringer so that when the slider is at the top of the coupling elements of the second stringer, the first stringer can disengage from the slider. When the slide fastener is fitted to an inflatable lifejacket, the stringers are separated completely when the lifejacket is inflated.

Abstract:
This invention relates to improved techniques for processing potential field measurement data from airborne surveys such as gravity surveys, and to improved techniques for data acquisition which are enabled by the improved data processing techniques. We describe a method of processing measured potential field data from a potential field survey of the earth to determine map data for mapping said field, the method comprising: inputting said measured potential field data, said measured potential field data comprising data defining a plurality of potential field measurements and associated positions, each said position defining a position of a said potential field measurement in three dimensions; determining a plurality relationships between said potential field measurements and said positions, each said relationship relating a said potential field measurement to a function of a said associated position in three dimensions multiplied by a field mapping parameter; and determining a substantially self-consistent set of said field mapping parameters for said plurality of relationships to thereby determine said map data.
Abstract:
A slide fastener is provided. A pair of coupling elements provided along adjacent edges of a pair of fastener tapes. A slider is configured to engage or separate the pair of coupling elements with or from each other. An end stop is secured to the pair of fastener tapes at an end portion of the pair of coupling elements. The pair of coupling elements are secured to each other at one region of the end portion of the pair of coupling elements. The one region extends between a rear end portion of a diamond of the slider and a base portion of the slider in a state where the base portion of the slider comes in contact with the end stop.
Abstract:
A real time detector system for monitoring ram alignment in a can bodymaker measures ram (10) position immediately before and during impact with the dome forming station (1). Displacement measurements of the ram enable the user to adjust dome (1) position or otherwise correct ram (10) alignment and avoid multiple can failures.
