Abstract: An optical fingerprint sensor module includes a light source configured to provide illumination light directed toward a finger, a portion of the illumination light is scattered or reflected off of the finger, thereby generating signal light. The optical fingerprint sensor module further includes a photodiode array having a surface, a lens having an optical axis that forms an angle with respect to a normal of the surface of the photodiode array that is between 45 degrees and 135 degrees, a member defining a pinhole that is positioned off of the optical axis of the lens. The lens and pinhole are configured to focus the signal light onto the surface of the photodiode array. The optical fingerprint sensor module further includes electronic circuitries configured to process electrical signals generated by the photodiode array to produce an image of a fingerprint pattern of the finger.

Abstract: An apparatus may include a first headphone. The first headphone may include a first audio transducer and a second audio transducer. The first audio transducer may generate sound according to a first spectral mask and the second audio transducer may generate sound according to a second spectral mask. The first spectral mask and the second spectral mask may be adjustable at the first headphone. The first headphone may include a digital interface. The apparatus may further include a headphone controller to control the first headphone. The headphone controller may receive an audio signal from a portable electronic device and/or the headphone controller may transmit digital information representing speech, sound, or music to the first headphone. In response to a user input, the headphone controller may cause an adjustment to one or more of the first spectral mask or the second spectral mask.

Abstract: Touch sensing based on optical sensing as disclosed herein can be implemented by using an optical stylus or pointer that emits probe light for optical sensing, and spatially distributed optical sensors at different spatial locations for sensing. The measurements from the different optical sensors can be processed to determine the position of the light from the optical stylus at the screen. Optical sensing of a position on a two-dimensional surface and a position in a three-dimensional space can be achieved for various optical touch sensing applications. In one implementation, an apparatus can include a screen or display, an optical stylus or optical pointer, and two or more optical angle sensors which determine, respectively, a first angle between the first optical angle sensor and a position of light at the screen and a second angle between the second optical angle sensor and the position of light at the screen.

Abstract: The disclosed optical sensing technology can be implemented to provide optical fingerprint sensing while a user finger is located near a device while not in contact with the device for user authentication in accessing the device and can further provide optical fingerprint sensing while a user finger is in contact with the device. In some implementations, the optical fingerprint sensing can be performed on a finger in contact and on-contact instances to enhance the fingerprint sensing and to provide anti-spoofing in the optical sensing. For example, multiple fingerprint images can be captured when a finger is located near a device while not in contact with the device and when the finger is in contact with the device. The captured fingerprint images of the non-contact finger and the captured fingerprint images of the contact finger provide two different types of optical fingerprint sensing mechanisms and can collectively enhance the fingerprint sensing performance and anti-spoofing feature.

Abstract: Techniques are described for passive three-dimensional image sensing based on referential image blurring. For example, a filter mask is integrated with a lens assembly to provide one or more normal imaging bandpass (NIB) regions and one or more reference imaging bandpass (RIB) regions, the regions being optically distinguishable and corresponding to different focal lengths and/or different focal paths. As light rays from a scene object pass through the different regions of the filter mask, a sensor can detect first and second images responsive to those light rays focused through the NIB region and the RIB region, respectively (according to their respective focal lengths and/or respective focal paths). An amount of blurring between the images can be measured and correlated to an object distance for the scene object. Some embodiments project additional reference illumination to enhance blurring detection in the form of reference illumination flooding and/or spotted illumination.

Abstract: Techniques are described for passive three-dimensional (3D) image sensing based on chromatic differentiation for use in object verification. For example, multiple sub-images correspond to 3D feature regions of an object. The sub-images can be analyzed to obtain respective sets of feature depth measurements (e.g., depth, textural signatures, etc.) based on multiple differentiated chromatic components of raw image sensor data captured from the object. A verification signal can be output as a function of comparing the respective sets of feature depth measurements from the plurality of characteristic sub-images to previously stored feature depth expectations, such that the verification signal indicates whether an identity of the object is verified and/or whether the object is a spoof.
