Abstract:
There is disclosed a motor-driven garbage truck provided with a detachable garbage container equipped with releasable coupling elements, and also having permanently mounted thereon a pouring unit which includes a pouring chute, lifting and tipping apparatus for picking up a garbage can and discharging the contents thereof into the chute which leads to a receiving space, and a conveying and compacting apparatus including a compacting platen and which apparatus is driven by crossing hydraulic piston-cylinder units for transferring the garbage from the receiving space into the container through a receiving opening that is provided with a cover plate joined to the upper edge of the compacting platen and which is guided in tracks located above the driver's cab.
Abstract:
An improved waste collection system having an on-site container which is internally compartmented to receive and separately store the various waste components such as aluminum, glass, paper and land-fill trash. The route collection vehicle is divided into chambers and has a compaction system for compacting the contents of at least some of the collection vehicle chamber. The vehicle has a loading apparatus which lifts the container to an inverted dumping position in which position the container is positioned with respect to the chambers to cause the waste to be inherently separated or classified within the collection vehicle chambers. The loading apparatus may be side or front loading.
Abstract:
A fluid pressure system comprises first and second members each movable in response to fluid pressure to individually exert a force. A linkage arrangement couples the first member with the second member for moving the second member in response to movement of the first member, and vice versa. Fluid pressure is conveyed to the first and second members at a pressure that varies according to the work load encountered by the first and second members in response to a control mechanism. The contro mechanism includes a first sensor that senses the variable fluid pressure and a first valve associated with the first sensor. The first valve is operative, when the sensed fluid pressure is less than a predetermined threshold value, for opening the conveyance of fluid pressure to the first member while closing the conveyance of fluid pressure to the second member so that, as the first and second members move together, only the first member exerts a force. The first valve is further operative, when the sensed fluid pressure equals or exceeds the threshold value, for opening the conveyance of fluid pressure to both the first and second members so that, as the first and second members move together, both the first and second members individually exert a force. An apparatus for loading materials from a hopper into a storage container employing the above-described fluid pressure delivery system is also provided.
Abstract:
A refuse vehicle body of the type having a tailgate which may be raised to eject the contents, and a forward opening in the main body through which refuse may be dumped, and a ram moveable from the forward opening to the tailgate, and having a moveable bridge member extending from side to side of the main body; a compacting cylinder coupled to the bridge, and connected with the ram member for compacting refuse, and an ejection cylinder connected to the main body and to the bridge for moving the bridge rearwardly for ejecting contents from the main body.
Abstract:
A garbage compaction apparatus includes a packer housing having a loose garbage receiving bin and a compacted garbage storage bin. A packing channel communicates with both bins and has a ram reciprocally movable therein for moving garbage toward and into the storage bin. A movable wall within the storage bin is biased toward the outlet opening of the packing channel such that upon the accumulation of sufficient garbage within the storage bin, the insertion of additional garbage by the ram causes the wall to retract against the urging of the biasing mechanism whereby the accumulated garbage in the storage bin is maintained in a compacted state. The packer housing may be supported on a vehicle with the receiving bin situated forwardly of the storage bin and with the packing tube extended rearwardly to introduce garbage into the storage bin at the rearward end thereof so as to force the movable wall forwardly within the storage bin.
