Abstract:
An aluminum-lithium based alloy which comprises 10-20 wt. % silicon, 1.5-5.0 wt. % copper, 1.0-4.0 wt. % lithium, 0.45-1.5 wt. % magnesium, 0.01-1.3 wt. % iron, 0.01-0.5 wt. % manganese, 0.01-1.5 wt. % nickel, 0.01-1.5 wt. % zinc, 0.01-0.5 wt. % silver, 0.01-0.25 wt. % titanium and the balance aluminum. The alloy is utilized to cast high temperature assemblies including pistons which have a reduction in density and similar mechanical properties including tensile strengths to alloys presently used.
Abstract:
In a pressure-diecast light-alloy piston for internal combustion engines, which piston comprises shaped fibrous bodies which are partly embedded in at least one of the piston head, ring zone, piston pin bosses and skirt of the piston, which bodies comprise short ceramic fibers, lying in a common plane and in said plane having a random orientation, the improvement wherein the piston (1) is made of a high-temperature magnesium alloy, the piston skirt at least on its sliding surfaces has a chemically applied or electrodeposited metallic sliding layer (3) which has a thickness of about 10 to 30 .mu.m and a hardness of about 740 to 850 HV.sub.0.01, and the inside surface of the piston is coated with a thin plastic paint layer (2) or an anodized magnesium oxide layer.
Abstract:
A fuel ignition products adhesive coating is disposed on the surface of an internal combustion engine piston. The coating protects the surface from corrosion and wear caused by the combustion of fuel in the cylinder.
Abstract:
A sintered metal vane hub and a vane blade formed of an epoxy and woven glass cloth laminate are assembled by die casting magnesium or injecting plastic into recesses on the hub and blade. The vane is shown in a semi-articulated vane pump used to inject air into the exhaust system of a vehicle engine.
