Abstract: One exemplary embodiment is a vehicle system comprising an engine, an exhaust aftertreatment system including a heating element, an electric machine configured to selectably operate as a motor or a generator, an inverter module including a plurality of inverter phase legs and an auxiliary leg, and an electronic control system in operative communication with the inverter module and the exhaust aftertreatment system. The electronic control system is configured to evaluate whether the electric machine is operating as a generator, selectably operate the plurality of inverter phase legs to rectify AC power received from the electric machine, evaluate whether to heat one or more components of the exhaust aftertreatment system, and selectably operate the auxiliary leg to provide rectified power from the inverter legs to one or more electrical heating elements thermally coupled with the one or more components exhaust aftertreatment system effective to heat the one or more components.

Abstract: Systems and methods for diagnosing at least one component in an exhaust aftertreatment system are provided. The system includes an exhaust aftertreatment system coupled to an engine system, at least one sensor, and at least one processing circuit structured to: receive initial sensor data; determine an initial parameter value based on the initial sensor data; determine that the initial parameter does not satisfy an initial threshold; perform operations to diagnose at least one component of the exhaust aftertreatment system comprising: causing the engine system to operate through a sequence of a plurality of engine outputs; receiving a plurality of sensor data, each of the plurality sensor data corresponding to at least one of the plurality of engine outputs; comparing each of the plurality of sensor data to a corresponding threshold; and diagnosing the at least one component based on the comparison.

Abstract: A method for operating an engine fueling system to manage fuel in an accumulator supplying fuel to an engine including multiple cylinders comprising monitoring fuel load in the accumulator, determining that the engine is operating in a cylinder deactivation mode such as a skip-fire mode during which one or more fueling events to one or more of the cylinders is being skipped, and controlling a supply of fuel from a fuel pump to the accumulator during the cylinder deactivation mode operation. In embodiments, controlling the supply of fuel includes causing fuel to be supplied from the fuel pump to the accumulator if the monitored fuel load is less than or equal to a first fuel load, and causing fuel to be not supplied from the fuel pump to the accumulator if the monitored fuel load is greater than the first load value. Controlling the supply of fuel may comprise controlling the supply of fuel during each fueling event cycle of each deactivated cylinder.
