Abstract:
A cage nut assembly includes a nut and a cage wrapped therearound. The nut has a number of stand-offs or protrusions provided on a lower surface thereof such that the stand-offs are the only part of the nut which are in contact with the cage. The stand-offs reduce the amount of bearing surface interface between the cage and the nut thus reducing the possibility that the two parts will stick to each other after a coating is applied to the mating surface which the cage is welded to. The nut is engaged by a male threaded fastener which is torqued into place and the stand-offs push into the material of the cage causing the cage material to flow out of the way such that the stand-offs embed into the material of the cage without deforming the stand-offs to a flattened condition.
Abstract:
A combustion engine is provided having a rotating drive shaft and planetary gear sets that are linked to a rotating chamber, keyed to the drive shaft, to turbomachinery within the chamber. Fluid is fed to the chamber through an axial passage in the drive shaft and is compressed by a number of mechanisms, including set of pump blades, turbine and reaction blades initially driven by the drive shaft and its starter motor. Bubbles within the fluid are subjected to high pressures causing combustion to occur within the bubbles. Additional pressure created by the combustion of the bubbles drives the fluid to exert a net torque on the drive shaft through the gearing mechanism, thereby generating power.
Abstract:
A brake disc wear indicator comprising a brake disc rotor having two radially opposed braking surfaces for engaging opposed brake friction pads, and at least one hole provided in the rotor at a location behind a braking surface and at a predetermined depth and distance from the braking surface such that the hole is originally invisible by the presence of brake rotor material but becomes visible when brake rotor material is worn away to the extent that the hole becomes exposed and visible.
Abstract:
An electronically controlled micro-dispensing apparatus (10) is described. The apparatus includes a container (12), an adaptor (18), a nozzle (28) and a control circuit (34 or 42). The container is filled with the chemical (104) and propellant (102). The adaptor, nozzle and control circuit are removable from the container and are reusable. The control circuits controls the length of pulse and the time duration between each pulse. By controlling these factors, the apparatus dispenses a precise amount of liquid over a set time period. The ejector allows for controlled dispensing and allows the liquid to be sprayed a greater distance. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus are used to dispense a pheromone in an outdoor setting, such as an orchard (100), to control insects.
Abstract:
A multi-component pigment slurry which comprises at least 50% solids. The slurry is formulated to be admixed into paint and coating compositions to promote TiO.sub.2 extension. The slurry includes a structured pigment, a coarse particle size pigment, and a fine particle size pigment. The structured pigment comprises about 20% to about 55% of the slurry by dry weight and has a median particle size diameter of about 0.7.mu. to about 6.0.mu.. The coarse particle size pigment preferably comprises about 20% to about 60% by weight of the slurry and has a median particle size diameter of about 3.0.mu. to about 10.0.mu.. The fine particle size pigment preferably comprises up to about 50% by dry weight of the slurry and has a median particle size diameter of about 0.2.mu. to about 1.0.mu..
Abstract:
An electronically controlled micro-dispensing apparatus (10 or 210) is described. The apparatus includes a liquid storage container (12), a propellant container (16), a control circuit (34 or 42) and an ejector (28). In a second embodiment, the liquid and propellant are in the same container (212). The control circuits control the length of pulse and the time duration between each pulse. By controlling these factors, the apparatus dispenses a precise amount of liquid over a set time period. The ejector allows for controlled dispensing and allows the liquid to be sprayed a greater distance. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus are used to dispense a pheromone in an outdoor setting, such as an orchard, to control insects.
Abstract:
A wideband signal distribution system for distributing among a plurality of outlets wideband signals modulated onto RF carrier signals within a specified frequency band. The system functions as "passive" infrastructure and includes a distribution unit having a plurality of input ports, a plurality of output ports, a transmission path, a combiner for applying signals appearing at the plurality of input ports to the transmission path, and a splitter for applying signals appearing on the transmission path to all of the plurality of output ports. The system further includes a plurality of cables selected from the class of fiber optic cables, coaxial cables, and twisted pair wire cables, each extending between a respective one of the distribution unit ports and a respective one of the plurality of outlets, and a plurality of impedance matching devices, where such devices are appropriate for the type or types of cable used. Each of the devices terminates a respective end of a respective one of the cables. Distribution units can be cascaded utilizing combinations of cable, such as coaxial cable or optical fiber cable, to enhance functionality of the system.
Abstract:
An environmentally, sealed, feedthrough connector of the type that may be used for externally accessing an outdoor TV line amplifier. The connector includes a cylindrical housing having an insert molded contact centrally disposed therein and a deformable O-ring about the insert molded contact. The connector is assembled under an axially compressive force which deforms the O-ring into sealing engagement with the internal wall of the housing.
Abstract:
A system is provided for detecting and locating touching, overlapping and broken segment characters in a binary information stream generated by scanning printed characters on a document surface with a linear sensor array. Fixed, variable and proportional pitch characters are accommodated. As the information stream is circulated through a shift register memory, selected cells of the memory provide a center cell memory window to plural trackers. The trackers are activated on a priority basis as center cells of the memory window satisfy a start condition, and trace between center cells satisfying an adjacency condition. Tracker information is qualified to identify valid information, and the valid tracker information merged to detect and center a valid character in a memory mosaic for output to succeeding systems.
Abstract:
A circuit board connector having a plurality of pairs of contacts arranged in a row and with each contact having a "C" shaped portion. Each pair of contacts is mounted securely at first ends thereof in a circuit board with the backs, or closed sides, of the "C" shaped portion facing each other and designed to receive the edge of a second circuit board inserted therebetween. The free end of each contact has an ear-like element extending outwardly from the board to which the contacts are secured. A connector housing fits over the pairs of contacts after they have been secured in the board. Inside the housing tabs are provided, behind which tabs the ears of the contacts are positioned, thereby prestressing each pair of contacts apart. The housing is also designed so that the side walls thereof press against a dimple or finger-like tang formed near the base of each contact, thereby forcing the contacts of each pair of contacts together and further enhancing the prestressing of each pair of contacts.
