Abstract:
An audience measurement service may monitor broadcasts in a region, ingesting closed captioning data, metadata, displayed text or logos, performing facial recognition on people, and/or generating audio/video fingerprints of broadcast content to create a database of content and associated keywords, along with times at which the content was broadcast. The audience measurement service may receive user search queries from a search provider and detect “spiking” queries. The audience measurement service may determine whether the spiking queries are related, contextually and temporally, to an item of content identified in the database, and infer that users generating the queries likely viewed the item of content. In some implementations, the audience measurement service may also infer that the users likely viewed other items of content (e.g. advertisements) displayed during the prior or subsequent few minutes on the same broadcast channel as the query-triggering item.
Abstract:
A method at a server system includes: detecting presentation of a media content item, identifying the media content item and one or more entities related to the media content item, determining respective levels of interest in the identified entities based on one or more signals, selecting a subset of the entities based on the determined levels of interest, and sending to a client device of a user, for presenting at the client device, the selected subset of the entities.
Abstract:
A process provides a user with context-aware information. The process is performed at a client device with one or more processors, a microphone, and memory. The memory stores one or more programs configured for execution by the one or more processors. The process receives audio fingerprints for a plurality of video programs and information that correlates each respective received audio fingerprint to a respective video program, and stores the received audio fingerprints and correlating information in memory. The process detects ambient sound using the microphone, and computes one or more sample audio fingerprints from the detected ambient sound. The process matches one of the sample audio fingerprints to a first stored audio fingerprint and uses the correlating information to identify a first video program corresponding to the matched sample audio fingerprint. The process then provides the user with information related to the first video program.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and media for presenting music items relating to media content are provided. In accordance with some implementations, methods for presenting music items relating to media content are provided, the methods comprising: detecting a plurality of music segments of the media content item that include music content; identifying a plurality of pieces of music played in the plurality of music segments; generating, using a hardware processor, a playlist including information relating to the plurality of pieces of music; causing the playlist to be presented to a user; receiving a user selection of a portion of the playlist corresponding to a piece of music played in a first music segment of the plurality of music segments; and causing information relating to a plurality music items that match the first music segment to be presented in response to receiving the user selection.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method includes receiving, from a secondary computing device, a request for enhanced content for a media program, the request comprising information indicative of a communication channel through which the media program is being displayed on a primary computing device; receiving broadcast information indicative of enhanced content for a plurality of communication channels; extracting, from the broadcast information indicative of enhanced content for the plurality of communication channels, broadcast information indicative of enhanced content for the communication channel through which the media program is being displayed on the primary computing device; obtaining, based on the extracted broadcast information, a link to enhanced content for the media program; and sending, to the secondary computing device, the link to enhanced content for the media program.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and media for presenting supplemental information corresponding to on-demand media content are provided. In some implementations, the method comprises: receiving an indication from a web browser extension executing within a web browsing application that a media content item is being presented on a content provider website; identifying the media content item being presented on the content provider website; determining whether supplemental content associated with the broadcasted media content item is available; in response to determining that the supplemental content is available, causing the web browser extension to present an indicator that the supplemental content is available; obtaining the supplemental content corresponding to the broadcasted media content item, wherein each piece of the supplemental content is associated with timing information of the broadcasted media content item; and causing a portion of the obtained supplemental content to be presented concurrently with the media content item in response to detecting that the indicator has been selected.
Abstract:
A method for providing efficient and accurate estimates of TV viewership ratings through a distributed computer system that includes multiple computers is disclosed. The method includes: receiving a query from a client at the distributed computer system; dynamically selecting one or more computers according to a predefined sharding function; at each of the selected computers, determining a count of qualified event records that satisfy the query; aggregating the respective counts of qualified event records determined by the selected computers; statistically projecting the aggregated count of qualified event records into an estimated total count of qualified event records on the distributed computer system; and returning the estimated total count of qualified event records to the requesting client.
