Abstract:
A water-based coating composition and methods of making and using the same are disclosed. The composition includes a halogenated resin, a polyol, a surfactant, and an amine. It is suitable for coating a variety of substrates including polyolefinic substrates such as polypropylene, and operates without aromatic organic solvents.

Abstract:
Water-based coating compositions comprise an aqueous solution, emulsion, or dispersion of (a) a water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer or oligomer having at least one anionic moiety which is capable of reacting with an oxazoline or oxazine moiety; (b) a water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer or oligomer having at least one oxazoline or oxazine moiety; and (c) colloidal silica; at least one of the components (a) and (b) further comprising at least one fluoroaliphatic moiety. The compositions can be used to form hard coatings having low surface energy and high abrasion resistance.
Abstract:
Non liquid-crystalline esterphenol-capped liquid polymer and polyol compositions in combination with an amino crosslinking agent endow coating compositions containing them with the ability of providing films having superior properties. The esterphenol-capped polymers and polyols can be prepared by direct esterification of hydroxybenzoic acid without its decarboxylation.

Abstract:
This invention relates to coating compositions which comprise a polymer having at least two hydroxy functional groups and a crosslinking agent having an average of at least two pendent ester groups of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl or aryl groups; n is from about 1 to about 5; X is nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus; and when X is either nitrogen or phosphorus, R.sup.3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, or an aryl group; R.sup.4 is lower alkyl or an aryl group; and when X is sulfur, R.sup.4 is nothing and R.sup.3 is either hydrogen, lower alkyl or aryl.
Abstract:
Pigmented high solid coating compositions are produced with reduced viscosities by the addition of at least one silane and at least one titanate.
Abstract:
A composition suitable for forming surface coatings, laminates or composite materials formed by bringing together:(a) a first polymer containing carboxylic acid, anhydride or acid chloride groups,(b) an amine or alcohol or a derivative thereof which is a tertiary amine, a ketimine, an acetal or an oxazolidine and(c) a second polymer capable of cross-linking with the first polymer in the presence of the amine or alcohol. The components may be initially in two packs and either mixed prior to application or sprayed onto the surface simultaneously from separate nozzles. The surface coatings are particularly suitable for coating surfaces which are otherwise difficult to coat and protect and may be applied to wet or rusted surfaces without surface preparation.
Abstract:
Coating compositions comprising a polymeric polyol with a polyester crosslinking agent having at least two beta-alkoxyester groups per molecule are disclosed. The compositions, when applied to a substrate and cured in the presence of a transesterification catalyst, give solvent-resistant coatings.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to N-methylol amide-containing resinous compositions and the methods of preparing them. Aqueous dispersions of the instant resinous composition containing N-methylol amides in amounts sufficient to impart self-curing at comparatively low temperatures are disclosed. The aqueous dispersions of the instant resinous compositions are useful as coating compositions; they are particularly suited to electrodeposition.
