Abstract:
Apparatus for and method of feeding a solute into a stream of solvent at an accurately predetermined and variable rate. A solute such as an acid for treating water to prevent scale formation is disposed in a container in solid form. The interior of the container communicates with a supply of heated and deaerated distilland via a conduit blocked by a predetermined variable area microporous membrane. The heated and deaerated distilland is circulated in contact with one side of the membrane and diffuses therethrough whereby the solute dissolves therein to form a concentrated aqueous acid solution. The concentrated acid solution is permitted to diffuse back through the membrane and mix with the distilland to control the pH thereof. The solute concentration within the acid solution in the container is maintained generally constant and means are provided for indicating a change in solute concentration.
Abstract:
A simplified chemical dispenser apparatus capable of dispensing a predetermined amount of a treatment chemical into a fluid includes a porous matrix exhibiting capillary action when the fluid contacts a surface of the matrix, a fluid treatment chemical composition located on a surface of the matrix, and housing means for covering said chemical composition and at least said chemical bearing matrix surface to shield against dripping or splashing from the top or sides. The housing may be applied as an envelope in which case the chemical supported upon the matrix is sealed therein.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for dispensing accurate mono-dispersed aerosol droplets wherein a syringe, a dropping needle, a conduit needle, and a fluid supply are arranged in a combination to form a droplet of liquid on the tip of the dropping needle from the syringe and to blow the droplet off of the dropping needle to a receiver means by the fluid supply.
Abstract:
Syringe-type apparatus for injecting a fluid sample into a fluid stream including a plunger section and a needle section enclosing a sample cavity of predetermined volume and diameter. The cavity includes a discharge opening in the front of the needle section and a gas inlet opening adapted to be opened or closed by a reciprocable plunger in the plunger section of the device. The plunger section also includes a gas inlet port through the sidewall thereof communicating with the inlet opening to the needle section when the plunger is in a retracted position. The needle section has a shoulder formed on the outer surface thereof at a position between the discharge opening and the inlet opening to the cavity. The shoulder is constructed to engage an abutment within a sample port thereby obstructing flow of the gas stream through the port and causing the gas stream to flow through the gas inlet port into the sample injector cavity to sweep the sample from the cavity.
