Abstract: Airbag cushion assemblies comprising cushion orientation features and related methods. Some embodiments may comprise an airbag cushion comprising a throat region comprising an inflator opening. An inflator comprising an inflator collar may be coupled with the airbag cushion. The inflator collar may comprise a non-circular shape. The assembly may further comprise an inflator coupling member coupled with the airbag cushion at the inflator opening. The inflator coupling member may similarly comprise a non-circular opening configured to be aligned with the inflator opening and to mate with the non-circular shape of the inflator collar so as to prevent the inflator from being coupled with the airbag cushion in a non-desired rotational orientation.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented herein for improved cross-path detection between a host vehicle and a target object. In general, the cross-path angle by solving a multiple hypothesis problem characterized by independent calculations across a first plurality of time points, the multiple hypothesis problem supposing a plurality of possible cross-path angle solutions, each cross-path angle solution representing a corresponding possible trajectory for the target object. Advantageously, a cross-traffic alert or other feedback may be triggered based at least partially on whether the target object is within a region of interest, wherein the region of interest is determined at least in part based on the estimated cross-path angle. In some embodiments the cross-path angle may be determined by selecting a cross-path angle solution from the plurality of possible cross-path angle solutions which minimizes a variance between results of the independent calculations across the first plurality of time points. Other feature disclosed herein include, determining an estimate for the cross-path angle for each of a plurality of trackings of the target object, wherein each tracking is characterized by a different set of two or more time points. This may advantageously enable, determining a change in trajectory of the target object based on variance between cross-path angle estimates.

Abstract: A LiDAR system and method include a signal generator generating an output signal having a variable frequency. A modulation circuit receives the output signal from the signal generator and applies the output signal from the signal generator to an optical signal to generate an envelope-modulated optical signal having a frequency-modulated (FM) modulation envelope. Optical transmission elements transmit the envelope-modulated optical signal into a region. Optical receiving elements receive reflected optical signals from the region. Receive signal processing circuitry receives the reflected optical signals and uses quadrature detection to process the reflected optical signals.

Abstract: A camera shutter arrangement is provided. The camera shutter arrangement includes a motor. A pinion gear is operatively coupled to the motor. An integral paddle-gear member includes a paddle portion and a gear portion. The gear portion extends from the paddle portion and meshes with the pinion gear to move the paddle portion between a first position and a second position when the motor is energized.

Abstract: An inflatable airbag system provides cushioning restraint of a vehicle occupant during an impact event of a vehicle. The airbag system can be configured to be mounted to a frontal region of a vehicle. The airbag system includes an inflatable airbag and a selectively actuatable vent that can be actuated in response to detection of an oblique impact event and/or a small overlap collision event. The selectively actuatable vent is actuated to open to provide additional venting and thus a lower pressure within the inflatable airbag. A lower pressure can reduce force and momentum on the vehicle occupant's head at an offset angled contact with the airbag. A lower pressure may also prevent the occupant from deflecting or rolling off of an airbag and colliding with other surfaces within the vehicle.

Abstract: A knee airbag (KAB) can be constructed with an adaptive vent for reducing internal cushion pressure when the deployment path is obstructed. Obstruction may occur, for instance, by an out-of-position occupant, or when the occupant's legs are in close proximity to the deploying KAB. By reducing the cushion pressure through adaptive venting, a potential for injury due to the deploying KAB can be reduced. External straps can be used to close the vents when no obstruction is encountered. With an adaptive KAB vent design, a direct contact between the occupant and the KAB adaptive vent straps can determine an amount of venting. In addition, the straps may be designed so that they are adaptive (tapered, positioned on an angle, or using different spacing) to account for different occupant sizes/knee spacing/knee contact locations.

Abstract: A tongue for a motor vehicle seat belt restraint system providing high friction restraining belt webbing transfer through the tongue in an impact condition. The tongue incorporates a deformable element which maintains the webbing away from contact with high friction elements in the normal use of the belt system. In a crash condition in which significant tension loads are applied to the belt webbing, the deformable element yields to provide contact between the belt webbing and a high friction surface which restricts the transfer of the webbing from the shoulder belt portion of the webbing to the let belt portion of the webbing which is normally more highly loaded in an impact condition. Several embodiments of deformable elements are described.

Abstract: Airbags and airbag assemblies are disclosed that include passive adaptive venting. The disclosed embodiments include an airbag cushion to define an inflation chamber and that include a set of vents. The set of vents is disposed through a panel of the airbag cushion. The set of vents allow egress of inflation gas from the inflation chamber and to be in an open state when a degree of compression of the airbag cushion is below a threshold level. The set of vents is configured to be in a closed state and/or obstructed by a vehicle surface of a vehicle structure when the degree of compression of the airbag cushion exceeds the threshold level.
