Abstract: A system for waking an electronic control unit upon movement of a controlled member, such as a vehicle lift gate or window, and protecting the electronic control unit from motor back EMF are provided. The system includes a power drive unit coupled to the controlled member and to the electronic control unit for moving the controlled member. A comparator subsystem is coupled to the power drive unit and is configured to compare an electrical output of the power drive unit generated due to motor back electromotive force in response to a manual movement of the controlled member to an electrical reference to determine whether to wake the electronic control unit. The system detects manual movement of the controlled member, e.g. from unauthorized entry, and causes an alarm and/or for the motor to brake or to drive to counteract the manual movement of the controlled member.

Abstract: A user interface system for controlling a vehicle operation including a printed circuit board (PCB) that has a front side and a back side. A top layer that is electrically conductive defines the front side of the PCB. A plurality of indicia are etched into the top layer. An applique overlies the front side of the PCB. At least one proximity sensor is integrated into the front side of the PCB for detecting user object adjacent to the associated indicia and outputting a corresponding detection signal. The PCB further includes a base layer under the top layer. The base layer is at least partially formed of an optically transparent material. At least one light emitting device is positioned on the back side of the PCB for illuminating the indicia. A controller unit is coupled to the at least one proximity sensor and the at least one light emitting device.

Abstract: A vehicle panel assembly for a motor vehicle and carrier module therefor are provided. The carrier module has a carrier with an actuator attachment region integrally formed thereon and providing a first attachment feature. A latch assembly is secured to the carrier module and an actuator is configured in operable communication with the latch assembly to selectively cinch the latch assembly. The actuator has a housing providing a second attachment feature, wherein the first and second attachment features are configured for attachment to one another.

Abstract: An electromechanical strut for moving a closure member between open and closed positions relative to a vehicle body includes a housing having an inner surface bounding a cavity extending along a central axis between opposite first and second ends. A power screw is disposed in the cavity in operable communication with a motor, with a gear assembly operably connecting the motor to the power screw. An extensible member has an outer cover tube received in the housing cavity and a drive mechanism for converting rotary motion of the power screw into linear motion of the extensible member. An annular gap extends between the inner surface of the housing and an outer surface of the outer cover tube. An annular bushing is disposed within the annular gap to minimize laterally play between the housing and the outer cover tube.

Abstract: A friction based counterbalance mechanism for coupling with a closure panel to assist in opening and closing of the closure panel for at least a portion of a path between a fully closed position and a fully open position of the closure panel, the counterbalance mechanism including: an elongate member positioned on a longitudinal axis extending between the proximal and distal ends of the counterbalance mechanism, the elongate member having a peripheral surface, the elongate member having a proximal end for coupling to one of the closure panel and a body of a vehicle; a travel member having a body and at least one friction member mounted on the body, the travel member positioned on the longitudinal axis for reciprocation there along and for providing contact between the at least one friction member and the peripheral surface, said contact for generating a friction force in a first region along the longitudinal axis and in a second region along the longitudinal axis; and a support member coupled to the travel element at a proximal end and for coupling at a distal end to the other of the closure panel and a body of a vehicle, the support member for guiding said reciprocation. The friction based counterbalance mechanism can be incorporated as part of a biasing strut such as a spring configured strut.

Abstract: A hood latch system for a motor vehicle includes a vehicle hood latch assembly configured in operable communication with a gearshift member. The vehicle hood latch assembly is prevented from unintended release of a vehicle hood striker, fixed to a hood of the motor vehicle, from a ratchet of the latch assembly when the gearshift member is shifted into a non-parked mode. When the gear shift member is selectively actuated in a park mode, the vehicle hood latch assembly is actuated to release the striker from the ratchet, thereby allowing the hood to be opened.
