Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for performing radio resource control procedures for remote wireless devices in a wireless communication system. A remote wireless device may transmit a radio resource control message that includes information configured to be relayed to a cellular base station to a relay wireless device, which may relay the information to the cellular base station. The cellular base station may also transmit a radio resource control message that includes information configured to be relayed to the remote wireless device to the relay wireless device, which may relay the information to the remote wireless device.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) includes first and second subscriber identity modules (SIMs), possibly subscribed to different carriers. When the first SIM is in a connected state and the second SIM is in an idle state, the UE may need to periodically tune away a radio from a first frequency used for communication under the first SIM to a second frequency used for idle mode activity under the second SIM. The UE may provide to the network of the first SIM the second SIMs traffic activity pattern and/or serving frequency so that the network may provide coordinated configuration and/or scheduling for the UE device, e.g., in order to make the action of tuning away (and tuning back) the radio more efficient and/or to decrease the network impact of such radio tune aways (e.g., to decrease wasted uplink scheduling and wasted downlink transmissions for the first SIM).

Abstract: A device and method for a user equipment (UE) to implement power savings mechanisms when operating within a significant location. The UE identifies that the UE is at a significant location. The significant location is a location relative to a currently camped cell of a network. At a first time and at the significant location, the UE performs a type of operation related to the network connection. The UE stores information corresponding to the performance of the type of operation at the first time in a profile associated with the significant location. At a second time and at the significant location, the UE performs the type of operation related to the network connection. The performance of the type of operation at the second time is modified based on the information stored in the profile associated with the significant location.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for using an assistance information framework to perform fast carrier aggregation and dual connectivity configuration. A wireless device may provide assistance information for determining a carrier aggregation or dual connectivity configuration to a cellular base station. The assistance information may be provided while establishing a radio resource control connection. The assistance information may include either or both of carrier aggregation or dual connectivity preference information for the wireless device or service data amount information for the wireless device. The cellular base station may select a carrier aggregation or dual connectivity configuration for the wireless device based on the assistance information, and may provide configuration information for the selected configuration to the wireless device.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for improving efficiency in IMS registration and management in a wireless communication device, such as a UE. In some scenarios, the UE may, while implementing IMS services (e.g. for VoLTE) over a wireless communication link with a cellular network, determine that the wireless communication link is not performing at an acceptable level. In response, the UE may start a timer and buffer IMS SIP signaling messages while the timer is running. If the wireless communication link performance is restored to an acceptable level before expiration of the timer, the UE may transmit the buffered IMS SIP signaling messages. If the timer expires prior to restoration of the wireless communication link, the buffered messages may be cleared, and the UE may locally deregister from IMS registration and IMS PDN. In some scenarios, select IMS SIP signaling messages may be omitted or removed from the buffer.

One example aspect is a UE device, comprising: communication circuitry; and a processor configured to perform operations comprising: in response to a determination to perform a Radio Resource Control (RRC) inactive data transmission: transmitting, via the communication circuitry, a message 1 (Msg1) or a message A (MsgA) preamble based on a Random Access Channel (RACH) configuration for the RRC inactive data transmission; transmitting, via the communication circuitry a message 3 (Msg3) or a MsgA Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) comprising uplink (UL) data via configured resources; and receiving, via the communication circuitry, a message 4 (Msg4) or a message B (MsgB) in response to the Msg3 or the MsgA PUSCH.

A timing advance may be maintained while in the radio resource control inactive mode. An uplink transmission may be performed using resources configured for performing uplink transmissions while in the radio resource control inactive mode. The uplink transmission may be performed using the timing advance.

Abstract: While in an inactive state, a user equipment (UE) device transmits a message to a base station. The message indicates the UE device's intent to perform transmission and/or reception of user data with the network during the inactive state. The message may include a portion of the user data and/or a buffer status report. The UE device receives a response message that induces a state transition in the UE device. Different state transitions (e.g., to idle, inactive, legacy inactive, connected) may be induced by different types of response message (e.g., release, release with suspend configuration, resume, setup). One particular type of response message causes the UE to stay in the inactive state and enables subsequent user data transmission/reception in the inactive state. The response message may implicitly (or explicitly) indicate that forwarding of the user data to a core network was successful.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to performing implicit radio resource control state transitions in a cellular communication system. A wireless device may establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a cellular base station. A data inactivity timer length and a target RRC state for implicit RRC transitions may be determined. A data inactivity timer having the determined data inactivity timer length may be initiated. It may be determined that the data inactivity timer has expired. The wireless device may transition to the target RRC state based at least in part on determining that the data inactivity timer has expired.
