    Abstract: An optical fingerprint sensing module is configured to be disposed under a display screen that includes an array of LEDs. The optical fingerprint sensing module includes a light coupler disposed under the display screen, an array of light collimators coupled to the light coupler, a photodetector array, electronic circuitry coupled to the photodetector array, and a processor. The processor is configured to cause the electronic circuitry to capture a first frame while a first plurality of LEDs in the display screen are turned on and a second plurality of LEDs are turned off, and capture a second frame while the first plurality of LEDs are turned off and the second plurality of LEDs are turned on. The processor is further configured to construct a first fingerprint image and a second fingerprint image by combining the first frame and the second frame.

    Abstract: Techniques are described for implementing an immediate-mode camera for integration into portable personal electronic device (PPED) environments. Embodiments of the IMC can include an integrated digital camera that can be triggered directly by one or more user interface components, without involving waking up the application processor, waking up display components, waking up digital camera components, and/or starting up camera-related applications. For example, if a user's smart phone is locked, and the user desired to capture a photo, the user can interact with particular UI components in a particular manner, thereby directly triggering capture of image data by the IMC substantially without delay. Implementations of the IMC can involve a low-power, always-on digital camera that is directly controllable by one or more always-on user interface components. The IMC components can be in communication with an always-on region of the application processor via a fast hardware interface.

    Abstract: An optical fingerprint sensor module includes a light source configured to provide illumination light directed toward a finger to generate signal light scattered or reflected off of the finger, a photodiode array having a surface, an optically transparent spacer disposed over the surface of the photodiode array, a first mirror configured to reflect the signal light, a lens configured to receive and refract the signal light reflected by the first mirror, a member defining a pinhole disposed behind the lens and configured to transmit the signal light refracted by the lens, a second mirror disposed behind the pinhole and above the optically transparent spacer and configured to reflect the signal light transmitted through the pinhole toward the surface of the photodiode array, and electronic circuitries configured to process electrical signals generated by the photodiode array to produce an image of a fingerprint pattern of the finger.

    Abstract: Optical sensing is provided with a large sensing area in a thin package. For example, embodiments can operate in context of an under-display optical fingerprint sensor integrated into an electronic device, such as a smartphone. Responsive to reflected probe light passing through a display module, a reflective structure is configured to redirect the reflected probe light onto a refractive structure, and the refractive structure is configured to converge the reflected probe light into an input aperture of an optical sensor for detection. Some embodiments operate in context of an enhancement panel having micro-prism structures that tend to blur the reflected probe light. In such context, embodiments are configured for off-axis detection to prefer light passing through only certain micro-prism faces, thereby mitigating blurring.

    Abstract: The disclosed technology provides optical anti-proofing techniques in fingerprints sensing in devices or systems that use fingerprint identification for controlling access. The disclosed technology uses a fingerprint sensor to detect a contact input associated with a source of a fingerprint; generates an image signal from the fingerprint sensor responsive to the detected contact input that is indicative of one or more images of the fingerprint; uses an optical biometric sensor that is separate from the fingerprint sensor to generate a biometric marker detection signal indicative of a biometric marker different from the fingerprint; and processes, by processing circuitry, the generated image signal and the biometric marker detection signal to determine whether the detected contact and the associated one or more fingerprint images are from a finger of a live person who makes the contact input.

    Abstract: Devices, systems, and techniques are provided for performing human fingerprint detection and authentication for authenticating a request to access a locked mobile device equipped with a fingerprint detection module. In one aspect, responsive to detecting a contact from an object with the fingerprint detection module, described technique can be used to determines whether the contact from the object is from human skin. When determined that the detected contact from the object is from human skin, a presence of a human fingerprint can be detected from the object making contact. The detected fingerprint data can be obtained from the object and compared against stored fingerprint profiles associated with an authorized user of the locked mobile device. Based on the comparing, the request to access the locked mobile device can be granted.
