Abstract: A system for assisting a rescuer with treatment of a patient comprising a mobile computing device that includes a user interface and a processor coupled to memory. The processor configured to cause the user interface to prompt the rescuer to select a proficiency level from a plurality of proficiency levels, the plurality of proficiency levels comprising a basic proficiency level and at least one non-basic proficiency level, wherein the basic proficiency level includes basic resuscitation instructions for the rescuer. The system further configured to receive an input from the rescuer of the selected proficiency level. The system provides, if the rescuer selects the basic proficiency level, the basic resuscitation instructions to the rescuer and provide, if the rescuer selects the at least one non-basic proficiency level, non-basic instructions to the rescuer. Lastly, the system transmits signals to control a defibrillator according to the selected proficiency level.

Abstract: A system for improving cardiac output of a patient suffering from pulseless electrical activity or shock and yet displays myocardial wall motion including: a sensor to detect myocardial activity to determine the presence of residual left ventricular pump function having a contraction or ejection phase and a filling or relaxation phase, a device to prompt the application of or apply a compressive force repeatedly applied to the chest based on the sensed myocardial activity such that the compressive force is applied during at least some of the ejection phases and is ceased during at least some of the relaxation phases to permit residual cardiac filling, thereby enhancing cardiac output and organ perfusion.

Abstract: A method of automatically determining which type of treatment is most appropriate for a cardiac arrest victim, the method comprising transforming one or more time domain electrocardiogram (ECG) signals into a frequency domain representation comprising a plurality of discrete frequency bands, combining the discrete frequency bands into a plurality of analysis bands, wherein there are fewer analysis bands than discrete frequency bands, determining the content of the analysis bands, and determining the type of treatment based on the content of the analysis bands.

Abstract: A system for assisting a rescuer in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) chest compressions includes a motion sensor configured to generate motion sensor signals indicative of chest motion and a defibrillator. The defibrillator includes a processor and a display screen configured to provide CPR feedback and defibrillation information. The processor is configured to receive the motion sensor signals, analyze the motion sensor signals for features characteristic of a chest compression delivery type to distinguish between chest compression delivery types comprising manual compression, non-automated ACD, and automated ACD, and selectively provide the CPR feedback at the display screen based on an identification of the chest compression delivery type such that the CPR feedback includes a plurality of CPR parameters for the manual compression delivery type and remove at least portions of the CPR parameters from the display screen for the non-automated ACD and the automated ACD compression delivery types.
