Abstract:
A drum filter for thickening lime sludge in which the lime sludge is thickened on a filter layer (precoat) formed by the lime sludge on the filter periphery. The filter is provided with high pressure liquid nozzles continuously reciprocating in the longitudinal direction of the drum in such a way that, during each rotation of the drum, part of the filtering layer is continuously detached and drops into a vat containing the lime sludge.
Abstract:
A slurry filter apparatus in which a pump mechanism having a valve and a valve seat, each of which is made of a wear-resisting metal material, is capable of moving a slurry of high density and containing hard particles, under pressure, the flow of slurry being injected so as to strike the face of the filter at an a predetermined, non-tangential angle. Coarse particles contained in the slurry are uniformly dispersed by the shearing forces due to cavitation generated through the high pressure injection of the slurry and abrupt speed changes of the flow of slurry. A caked layer of particular material is thereby prevented from forming on the surface of the filter.
Abstract:
A process for producing hermetically sealed filters is disclosed. The process includes the steps of providing thermoplastic base and top filter parts and a section of filtration media, sandwiching the media between sections of the base and top filter parts under a compressive force, applying a rapidly repetitive force to at least one of the filter parts to cause movement between the parts and frictional welding of the parts, maintaining the compressive force after frictional welding to allow the melted portion of the parts to solidify and thereby form a fluid seal at the junction of the filter parts and at the junctions of the filtration media and each of the base and top filter parts. In one embodiment, the junction between the filter parts is the periphery of an automatic transmission filter, and the junction is hermetically sealed. A hermetically sealed automatic transmission filter is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A filtering apparatus filters cutting oil containing metal chips so that the filtered cutting oil can be recycled. The filtering apparatus includes a reservoir, a filtering drum journalled within the reservoir and having a filtering screen extending about the periphery of the drum, chip discharge device for carrying separated metal chips of the reservoir, a discharged chip receiving bin disposed outside of the reservoir adjacent to the discharge end of the chip discharge device and a filtered oil receiving bin disposed outside of the reservoir adjacent to a filtered oil discharge area of the reservoir. A permanent magnet is disposed outside the reservoir so as to attract metal chips to the bottom of the reservoir from where the chips are discharged by the chip discharge device.
Abstract:
The improved rotary vacuum filter discharge flow assembly provides a discharge filtrate stream having a substantially increased filtrate flow velocity, a reduced vacuum loss, a reduced level of turbulence and air entrainment to means defining an axially-extending valve-receiving space in communication with a remote filtrate collection area. The subject assembly, which is located at one end of a rotary vacuum filter, includes a plurality of radially-disposed, inlet conduit means connected to and in communication with the rotary vacuum filter discharge flow assembly and comprises a plurality of radially-disposed discharge conduit means for transporting the discharge filtrate stream from the inlet conduit means to the valve-receiving space means. Each of the discharge conduit means are connected at one end to one end of the inlet conduit means, and are joined at the other end to respective adjacent discharge conduit means for defining the valve-receiving space means.
Abstract:
A thickener has a receptacle in which a thickening drum having an axial filtering wall is mounted in a receptacle for rotation about an axis. A liquid-and-solid-materials mass to be thickened is introduced into the one axial end of the thickening drum. Thereby the solid materials contained in the mass to be filtered form a filtering layer on the inner surface of the a filtering wall and liquid filtrate from the mass flows through the filtering layer and wall into the receptacle. At least one barrier plate radially divides the inner space of the thickening drum into axially sequential spaces, the barrier plate being fixed within the thickening drum for rotation therewith. The barrier plate is provided with at least one opening axially therethrough for flow of the mass to be thickened and at least one opening axially therethrough for air flow in the axial direction of the thickening drum. The thickened mass is then discharged from the other axial end of the thickening drum.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an improved rotary drum vacuum filter that is especially useful in the filtration of particulates that form an easily eroded cake. The improved filter utilizes sprayers and a spray blocking means to achieve an unexpectedly efficient rinse of the cake.
Abstract:
A sieve drum (2) for drying solid materials such as, for example, brown coal is rotatably supported for being rotated around its axis (8). A conveying screw (3) is arranged within the interior of the sieve drum and can be rotated independent from the rotation of the sieve drum (2). The sieve drum (2) is designed as a slot-sieve drum, the slots (26) of which extend within the mantle of the drum from one front end (7) of the drum to its other front end (5). The sieve drum (2) and the conveying screw (3) are arranged within a tightly closable pressure resistant housing (1), steam supply openings (22) being connected to the housing (1) outside of the sieve drum.
Abstract:
A self-cleaning filtering apparatus for use in a material treating system of the type in which treating fluid is recirculated through a treating vessel. The apparatus includes a filtering chamber through which treating fluid flows from a pump to a heat exchanger. A cylindrical perforated filter element in the chamber filters particulate contaminant, such as lint in a textile processing system, onto the element, and a reciprocating cleaning member cleans the contaminant from the surface of the filter element by drawing fluid through an annular slot in a head of the cleaning member, with the fluid being drawn across and through the filter element to remove contaminant therefrom. The contaminant containing fluid is conveyed from the cleaning member back into the treating vessel where it is discharged into a large fabric bag that allows the fluid to filter through into the vessel and obstructs the contaminant for collection in the bag.
