Abstract:
Apparatus and process of removing quantities of heavy metals from blood utilizing immobilized chelating agents which are positioned on the opposite side of an anisotropic membrane from blood flowing across the retentive filter surface of the membrane.
Abstract:
Recovery of uranium from crude wet process phosphoric acid (WPA) by cation exchange using as cation exchanger a resin comprising active amino phosphonic or hydroxy phosphonic groups linked to a matrix. The operational steps comprise reduction of uranium in the WPA to the tetravalent state, contacting the WPA with the cation exchange resin to load the latter with tetravalent uranium, displacing Fe.sup.+2 from the resin, washing the resin with aqueous ammonia, eluting the resin with a carbonate-bicarbonate solution and precipitating uranium from the eluate.
Abstract:
By the displacement chromatographic process comprising passing a solution containing a plurality of metallic elements to be separated through a column packed with activated chelating resin, passing an eluent through the column and collecting successive portions of the resultant eluate, the metallic elements can be separated into individual metallic elements not only in a high state of purity but also in a high state of concentration, with a greatly improved column efficiency.
Abstract:
A spherical ion exchange resin composed of a phenolic resin and a metal hydroxide is disclosed. The metal hydroxide is enclosed and bound with the phenolic resin. A method for producing such an ion exchange resin and a method for selectively adsorbing ions using the same is also disclosed. The ion exchange resin is capable of efficiently recovering ions contained or dissolved in water in trace amounts and, hence, can be applied to any aqueous solution containing ions. For example, it can be used to recover useful substances from sea water and to purify waste waters from nonferrous refineries and nuclear power plants.
Abstract:
A composition containing thiolate for the removal of heavy metal ions from dilute aqueous solutions, characterized in that the composition is a sorption complex of a thiolate with two or more -SMe- groups (wherein Me represents alkali or ammonium) with a swellable silicate, whose ion exchange capacity is 5-350 milliequivalents/100 g. The composition is suspended in the aqueous medium to be purified and separated off after the absorption of the heavy metal ions from the aqueous solution. The heavy metals can be recovered in known ways.
Abstract:
What is disclosed is the preparation of novel silanes, their reaction products on various substrates and the use of the treated substrates to extract metal ions from solution. An example of such a novel compound is ##STR1##
Abstract:
Contaminant components in waste water are complexed with a chelating agent and the complexed component is gelled with a polyurethane prepolymer to provide a gelled mass.
Abstract:
Compounds represented by the formula ##STR1## and addition polymers thereof where m is an integer from 2 to about 10, X- is chlorine, hydroxy, carboxy or-AC-R).dbd.CH.sub.2-R is hydrogen or methyl, -R' is an ethylene or propylene group and-AC-R).dbd.CH.sub.2is one of ##STR2## These compounds and their addition polymers form complexes with alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts and permit the concentration of aqueous solutions of said salts. For example, a compound of the formula ##STR3## is polymerized with an azobis(isobutyronitrile) catalyst to form addition polymers of the repeating unit ##STR4## When cross-linked, rendering it water-insoluble, such an addition polymer concentrates an aqueous solution of sodium chloride when contacted with same at about 0.degree. C.
Abstract:
An etherified phenolic chelate resin prepared by stabilizing and protecting the chelate groups of a phenolic chelate resin and then converting some or all of the phenolic hydroxyl groups into either groups; a process for the production of the etherified phenolic chelate resin; and a method for separating a heavy metal ion from an aqueous solution having a pH of at least 7 by using this etherified phenolic chelate resin.
