Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods of manufacturing optical engines and laser projectors that are well-suited for use in wearable heads-up displays (WHUDs) are described. Generally, the optical engines of the present disclosure integrate a plurality of laser diodes (e.g., 3 laser diodes, 4 laser diodes) within a single, hermetically or partially hermetically sealed, encapsulated package. Photonic integrated circuits having grating couplers thereon may be used to wavelength multiplex beams of light emitted by the plurality of laser diodes into a coaxially superimposed aggregate beam. Such optical engines may have various advantages over existing designs including, for example, smaller volumes, better manufacturability, faster modulation speed, etc. WHUDs that employ such optical engines and laser projectors are also described.

Abstract: A projection apparatus, comprising one or more light sources, wherein the one or more light sources are arranged to collectively provide a light signal which comprises multiple wavelengths, wherein the projection apparatus further comprises an optical filter configured to filter the light signal provided by the one or more light sources, so that two or more images may be projected simultaneously by the projection apparatus, each image being projected to a different position. There is further provided a scanning device which uses the afore-mentioned projection apparatus.

Abstract: An ocular control system arranged to determine electric potentials associated with a set of sensor. The ocular control system may determine direction of gaze or motion based on the determined electric potentials. The determined direction of gaze or motion may be used to provide data input for a computing device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing communication between processor-based devices. The system includes at least one processor-readable medium communicatively coupled to at least one processor and which stores processor-executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to: identify a first textual message generated at a first processor-based device that is designated for visual presentation via a second processor-based device, the first textual message including a plurality of alphanumeric characters; perform a classification on the first textual message that converts the first textual message into one or more graphic or pictorial symbols; and cause a presentation of the one or more graphic or pictorial symbols in lieu of, and without presentation of, the first textual message using the second processor-based device.

Abstract: An optical combiner includes a lightguide having an input region, an output region, a relay region intermediate between the input region and the output region, and one or more stress raisers positioned to define a line of weakness in the lightguide. The line of weakness is intermediate between the input region and the output region and extends across the relay region. An in-coupler is disposed at the input region to receive an incident light with a field of view and couple the incident light into the lightguide. An out-coupler is disposed at the output region to couple light out of the lightguide. The optical combiner may be integrated with one or more lenses for use as a combiner lens in a wearable heads-up display.

Abstract: A combiner lens includes a first lens, a lightguide, and a second lens. The first lens includes a first lens body and a flange integrally formed with the first lens body. The first lens body and flange define a main cavity. The flange has a first joint surface. The lightguide is disposed at least partially in the main cavity. The second lens includes a second lens body positioned in stack with the lightguide and the first lens body. The second lens has a second joint surface in opposing relation to the first joint surface. The second lens is attached to the first lens by a joint formed between the first joint surface and the second joint surface.
