Abstract:
A process for separating vaporous mixtures of hydrocarbons, water and emulsifier derived from the remediation of wellbore fluid, such as a mud containing solid particulate material in which the vaporous mixture is quenched with a hydrocarbon stream which is at a temperature above the boiling point of water and below the boiling point of the hydrocarbons in the vaporous stream. Most of the hydrocarbons in the vaporous stream and substantially all of the emulsifier are condensed into the hydrocarbon quench to form an oil stream. The water is recovered from the hydrocarbon quench as a vaporous stream and quenched with water. The quenched water and any residual heavier hydrocarbons are separated by phase separation.
Abstract:
This invention discloses novel methods of making fermented food products such as yogurt. It also discloses novel Lactobacillus bulgaricus organisms for making fermented food products which are conditionally sensitive, that is, operate to metabolize a desired compound normally under the processing conditions for fermented food products but slow or decrease in activity beyond what is normal under the routine storage temperatures for the fermented food products. Such fermented food products exhibits improved shelf life and long-term taste.
Abstract:
Watercraft has a hull with a viewing opening therein extending between upper and lower portions of the hull. A transparent viewing unit is fitted within the viewing opening and has a periphery spaced apart from side wall of the viewing opening to define a draining space between the side wall and the viewing unit. This provides a peripheral clearance extending generally around the unit for draining water through the hull irrespective of angle of the watercraft with respect to the horizontal. A cowl extends peripherally around the viewing opening and has a lower portion sealing the viewing opening to prevent passage of water, and an upper portion to embrace portions of a person's face to exclude extraneous light.
Abstract:
A wrist support (10) includes a base member (11) of a flexible material adapted to be formed into a tubular sleeve. A stay (30) is formed from a resilient material and includes a support member having first and second sides, a top and bottom and a plurality of slits wherein the support member provides support and the slits allow for additional flexibility. Further provided is a means for operatively connecting a stay proximate the base member. A loop member 17 is operatively connected to the base member 11 and mating member 13 is also operatively connected to the base member 11 at an end opposite the loop member. The mating member has a connecting element 13a operatively connected to a tab element 13b. The tab element 13b is wider than the length of the loop member 17 and has to be deformed to pass through the slot to the opening 17a and the loop member 17.
Abstract:
An apparatus for wetting adhesive portions on items such as mailers being folded by a folding machine is provided so that mailers can be folded, closed and sealed in one operation. The apparatus pumps fluid from a reservoir through tubes to fluid dispensers positioned so that adhesive portions of mailers pass thereby. A continuous stream of fluid dispensed by the fluid dispensers wets the adhesive portions on the mailers as they pass the fluid dispensers. The apparatus includes collection trays and suction means to collect excess fluid. A distribution manifold is used to distribute and control fluid dispersement.Within one aspect of our invention a unique fold plate is provided comprising a frame with a plurality of elongated members removably attached to the frame for adjusting the positions thereof. The adjustment permits the fluid dispensers to be located at different positions on the fold plate so that items having adhesive portions in different locations can be wetted and folded on the folding machine. The adjustment also permits the elongated members to be adjusted away from the wet adhesive.
Abstract:
The invention relates to assays utilizing microparticle separation. More particularly, the invention relates to microparticle assays used for confirmation of ligands in a biological sample.

Orthodontic brackets are made from ion exchange strengthened glass. In a preferred embodiment, the glass is a lithium alumino silicate srengthened with sodium ions.
Abstract:
A fuel metering apparatus having a metering chamber to hold fuel for subsequent delivery to an engine. A rigid metering member projecting into the chamber linearly movable relative to the chamber to vary the extent of projection of the metering member into the chamber to thereby control the quantity of fuel displaceable from the chamber. An inextensible flexible member secured to the metering member and a motor operated in accordance with the engine fuel demand, the motion of the motor being transmitted to the metering member through the inextensible flexible member. The inextensible flexible member is preferably adjustably coupled to the motor so the limit of movement of the metering member may be set as required.
Abstract:
A process for the removal of deposits consisting essentially of the oxides of one or more transition metals from a surface, which process comprises contacting the said surface at a pH in the range of from 2.0 to 7.0 with a reagent comprising a one-electron reducing agent which is the complex formed between a low oxidation state transition metal ion and a complexing agent, for destabilizing the metal oxides deposited, thereby increasing their rate of dissolution, the complexing agent being thermally stable at the operating pH and present in order to form the necessary complex reagent and also to increase the thermodynamic solubility of the metal ions released.
Abstract:
In the manufacture of roof tiles comprising extruding a continuous shaped ribbon of tile forming material onto a succession of pallets, and cutting the ribbon where pallets adjoin to form individual green state tiles on pallets, there is performed the step of causing a cutting tool to engage with the upper surface of the ribbon only for part of the length of each pallet whereby a recess is formed in the upper surface of each tile. In a particular embodiment the recess is a channel cut in the tile at a location immediately downstream of the extruding step. The recess is also subsequently smoothed by applying a smoothing roll thereto.
