Abstract:
A throttle valve body (10, 100), especially for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, having a tubular body (16, 116), which comprises at least an outer casing (16A, 116A), an inner casing (16B, 116B), a first end face (16C, 116C) and a second end face (16D, 116D), the inner casing (16B, 116B) of the tubular body (16, 116) forming a flow duct (20, 120) through which a gaseous medium (56, 156), especially air, can flow in a main flow direction (58, 158), a throttle plate (24, 124) swivel-mounted on a throttle shaft (22, 122) being arranged in the flow duct (20, 120), is to have an especially low weight and be manufactured at least partially from standard components. For this purpose the outer casing (16A, 116A) of the tubular housing (16, 116) is at least partially enclosed by a housing (12, 112) made of plastic (14, 114), at least one actuator (30, 130) for the throttle shaft (22, 122) being arranged in the housing (12, 112) and the tubular body (16, 116) being largely composed of metal (18, 118).
Abstract:
A throttle device for engine has a throttle valve, a shaft, and a valve gear. The valve gear is driven to rotate by a motor. The shaft and the valve gear are unitarily molded of a continuous resinous material. In the coupled area between the shaft and the valve, a recess section is provided. The recess section is formed, from the outer end face of the gear, coaxially with the shaft. The recess section serves as a thin-walled section, and prevents deformation of the gear likely to be caused by heat shrinkage. Furthermore, the recess section includes a through hole, which is effective for moving the ball bearing along the axial direction. A press-fitting tool is inserted into the through hole to install the ball bearing by pressing.
Abstract:
A sintered powder metal (P/M) component has an integrally formed tapered boss surrounding its bolt hole which extends into counterbores in a component to which it is assembled and produces plastic conformance between the boss and the counterbore when the boss is seated in the counterbore. The P/M component can then be removed from the other component and reassembled to it, with the boss fitting perfectly back into the bore with the plastically deformed surfaces fitting back together precisely to determine the relative positioning of the two components. The boss is tapered, a moat may surround it, and the boss may be provided with axial splines and/or be oblong in the axial direction. Bosses such as these may be applied to two components in general, at least one of which is powder metal, such as a main bearing cap, a sensor ring for measuring the timing of an internal combustion engine and a connecting rod bearing cap. Such bosses may also be applied to a casting insert in which the boss is crushed when the die is closed so as to seal off the surrounded hole during casting.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a piston 1 for a four-stroke internal combustion engine, comprising a piston head 2 with a piston top 3 on the side of the combustion space, and a first groove 5 next to the piston top 3 holding a compression ring 9 and a second groove 6 further apart from the piston top 3 holding an oil scraper ring 22 being formed in the wall 4 of the piston head 2, and a piston ring land 7 being formed between the two grooves 5, 6, and further comprising a piston skirt 10 adjacent to the piston head 2, whose wall 11 includes first guide faces 12 for guiding the piston 1 in a cylinder, as well as a piston pin bore 13 carrying a piston pin 14. To reduce oil consumption and diminish frictional losses, it is provided that the ring land 7 between the two grooves 5, 6 be designed as second guide face 17 for guiding the piston 1.
Abstract:
A heavy duty diesel piston includes upper and lower portions joined across a friction weld and internally contoured to provide a dual gallery structure including an outer annular gallery and a central gallery joined by passages for communicating cooling oil therebetween. The dual-gallery structure allows oil to enter from the outer gallery, which is formed by the circumferential annular recess in the crown and crown bottom, into the central gallery to cool the piston and particularly the central crown region exposed to hot combustion gases. The friction weld provides high structural integrity and minimizes the number of manufacturing steps need to attach the crown to the crown bottom.

Thc present invention includes a light metal cylinder block comprising a cylinder running face which is coated with silicon. The invention also includes a method by which the silicon is applied to the running face comprising melting powder metal silicon, which is fired at the face in a powdered metal beam, under heat of a laser which is fired at the running face at the point of impact of the powdered beam. Furthermore the invention includes a device with which the cylinder block may be manufactured.
Abstract:
Non-contact type Hall ICs detecting an rotation angle of a throttle valve, a stator core strengthening a magnetic field around the Hall ICs, a lead frame connecting the Hall ICs to an outside ECU are integrated in a sensor cover by resin molding. Thus, the Hall ICs, the stator core, and the lead frame are accurately positioned in the sensor cover. As a result, the Hall ICs are accurately positioned with respect to a permanent magnet disposed in a shaft side of the throttle valve, thereby improving an accuracy of detecting the rotation angle of the throttle valve.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a piston for heavy-duty diesel engine applications comprises forming a piston body having a pair of pin bosses, and bonding separately formed skirt portions to the pin bosses. The resultant piston has the separately formed skirt portions united to the piston body in a monobloc piston construction.
Abstract:
For a machine housing with a split bearing arrangement, particularly journal bearing in piston machines, with a bearing cover clampably arranged via corresponding profiles on a bearing block, it is proposed that a bearing cover having a profile in its clamping face and acting as the tool electrode be used to produce by an electrical discharge machining process a corresponding profile in the clamping face of the bearing block of the machine housing serving as the workpiece electrode in order to achieve an advantageous formation of the profile. After the electrical discharge machining process, the bearing cover is mounted to the bearing block.
