Abstract: A package for at least two objects includes RFID bridge antennas, having RF antenna elements, for wirelessly communicating data between a tag associated with each object and a reader. An electromagnetic carrier signal transmitted by the reader antenna is received by one of the RF antenna element and retransmitted to the tag antenna by the other RF antenna element, increasing the distance over which the tag can communicate with the reader. Where the tag is attached to a packaged object, the RFID bridge antenna may be included in the package to allow wireless data communication between the tag and a reader. The reader may also be located external to the package. For example, one of the RF antenna elements may be attached to a label on the package, allowing data stored in the tag to be extracted by the external reader.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for updating a non-volatile memory (NVM) in an image forming device by employing the programmability of an electronically readable/writable memory module such as a customer replaceable unit monitor (CRUM) associated with a customer replaceable unit (CRU) as a vehicle for completing the needed updates in NVM values at the time of replacement of the CRU. Replacement of the CRU, where such replacement is verified by return of an expended CRU to the manufacturer, provides confirmation of updates to the NVM values. The CRUM provides a secure means to change image output terminal (IOT) set points and CRU related values stored in NVM locations that otherwise would require a manufacturers' customer service personnel visit to update. By providing an NVM location (chain/link), the value to be used and a one-time use authentication string, an automated update to the NVM is performed in a secure manner.

Abstract: A patient simulator system for teaching patient care is provided. The system includes a patient simulator. The patient simulator includes a patient body comprising one or more simulated body portions. The one or more simulated body portions include at least one simulated finger that is configured to interface with a pulse oximeter to simulate an oxygen saturation of the patient simulator. In some instances, the simulated finger is further configured to interface with the pulse oximeter to simulate a pulse rate of the patient simulator. In some embodiments, the simulated finger may be calibrated to accurately interface with a particular pulse oximeter. Methods of utilizing the patient simulator systems, including the simulated finger for interfacing with a pulse oximeter, are also provided.

Abstract: An apparatus (10) for helping to protect an occupant (20) of a vehicle (12) includes an inflatable vehicle occupant protection device (14) having a deflated condition and an inflated condition. Tear stitching (200) interconnects portions (220 and 230) of the protection device (14) and is rupturable to permit the interconnected portions to move relative to each other. The tear stitching (200) includes a break point (210) and first and second segments (212) that extend away from the break point. The tear stitching (200) is arranged on the protection device (14) such that tension forces acting to rupture the tear stitching act primarily on the break point (210) so that the tear stitching ruptures first at the break point and then along the first and second segments (212) of the tear stitching.

Abstract: A multifunctional ruler and protractor tool with the ability to form and scale a near infinite number of geometric shapes. The tool comprises both a standalone ruler and protractor unit. Rulers are capable of being added to each other successively, creating straight ruler assemblies of virtually any length. The protractor unit can be slid onto a single ruler or a straight ruler assembly containing any number of consecutively connected rulers, and is capable of fastening another ruler to its sides by a quick connect/disconnect mechanism. The protractor component of the protractor unit pivots, allowing for the creation of angles between rulers that are laterally fastened and slidably engaged to it. The sliding lock on the protractor unit can arrest both rotational and translational motion of the protractor unit along any ruler, if it is manipulated to do so. Multiple rulers and protractors can be connected to form both open and closed, regular and irregular, polygons, and other sided geometric shapes. Geometric configuration can be scaled to larger or smaller sizes.

Abstract: A machine, such as a phase change or solid ink printing apparatus, has at least one multiple supply unit in the form of an ink stick disposed therein. The ink stick has an electronically-readable memory device associated therewith, and the memory device has stored therein electronic data related to the ink stick and readable by the machine. The memory device may be attached to the ink stick and removed before the ink stick is used for printing in the machine. In another aspect, the memory device is attached to a container for the ink stick. The container may be a cartridge for use in the machine, or a container for packaging the ink stick. The machine may include a coupler configured to read electronic data from the memory device while the memory device is positioned external to the printing apparatus, thus allowing the machine to verify the suitability of the ink stick before it is installed in the machine.

Abstract: A food product based on dehydrated fruit or vegetable, and a method and equipment assembly for its production thereof, and use of said product as a tidbit or snack or as an additional or complementary ingredient in meals or in various food products such as cereals. The food product is comprised of substantially dry clusters of dehydrated and puffed fruit or vegetable pieces having an appealing shape and size, a crunchy texture and a palatable consistence. To produce the product, prepared fruit or vegetable pieces are dehydrated and puffed, the pieces are then homogeneously mixed with a liquid binder suitable for human or animal consumption and formed into clusters by compression-molding; then the clusters are dried to the desired end moisture contents. The main part of the equipment assembly for producing the product is a cluster forming device.
