    Abstract: The present application discloses methods for the production of organic compounds comprising a linear series of five fused carbon rings. Such compounds are useful in the production of electronic components, devices and materials. For example the methods disclosed permit the production of 2,9- and 2,10-disubstituted pentacene compounds and 2,6,9,13- and 2,6,10,13-tetrasubstituted compounds that present particularly advantageous properties for the manufacture of semiconductor materials, and may be used in devices such as for example thin film transistors and solar cells. These features are enhanced by π-π parallel stacking in the solid state. Also disclosed are compounds that are excellent candidates for use in the manufacture of semiconductor materials, and other components of electronic systems, by virtue of their solubility, crystal packing geometries, and electronic properties.

    Abstract: This invention features ring-substituted pyrrolo-β-carboline derivatives and ring-substitution and structural derivatives of 3-(1H-indol-3-yl)-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione of formulas I–III, which are useful as neuroprotective and anti-proliferative compounds.     Abstract: A process is provided for isolating the crystalline chemical compound, cholesterol, from dried whole egg and dried egg yolk obtained from domestic hen eggs. This process provides not only free cholesterol, but also edible whole egg that is reduced in cholesterol and edible egg yolk powder that is reduced in cholesterol. The process includes extraction with aqueous ethanol, saponification in aqueous ethanolic alkali metal hydroxide, and concentration and purification with a hydrocarbon solvent and methanol. The products obtained include free cholesterol, essentially cholesterol-free edible egg powder, i.e., either whole egg or egg yolk, and saponified fats, recovered in the form of their salts.
