Abstract:
The disclosure relates generally to the use of polymers to assist in aggregating mineral components in aqueous mineral slurries to release and separate individual components of the slurry, which may then be recovered from the slurry.
Abstract:
A method for applying water-laden polymer to a surface to prevent and/or extinguish a fire, the method comprising the steps of dispersing a dry, ground, superabsorbent polymer comprising particles of 20 microns or less in diameter to water in an amount sufficient to form a coherent polymer gel, and directing the coherent polymer gel onto a surface to prevent and/or extinguish a fire.
Abstract:
Water-soluble polymers are rapidly dissolved in water by dispersing finely divided particles of the polymer into a liquid carrier in which the polymer is insoluble to form a suspension. The suspension is then added to water in order to release the polymer into the water as discrete particles that rapidly dissolve. The polymer particles are preferably prepared by cryogenic grinding, or another non-molecularly destructive process.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates generally to the use of zeolite to assist in dispersion of components in aqueous mineral slurries to release and separate individual components of the slurry, which may then be recovered from the slurry and, in particular, to the use of zeolite in the recovery of bitumen from an oil sands slurry, water recovery from the slurry, and the subsequent consolidation of residual mineral solids.
Abstract:
A centrifuge such as a continuous solid bowl centrifuge, for example, includes a rotatable bowl for receiving a slurry, and defines a zone in which the slurry is accelerated. The centrifuge includes a device such as a slurry feed tube for delivering slurry to the acceleration zone and a device for delivering a plurality of individual streams of flocculant solution coterminating with the slurry delivery device in order to uniformly distribute flocculant solution to the slurry.
Abstract:
A collapsible intermediate bulk container for liquid or freely flowable solid materials includes either a fabric outer/film liner bag or a bag of fabric reinforced elastomer. The bag is supported by a collapsible rigid frame which gradually collapses as the bag is emptied. The collapsible rigid frame includes a pallet-base portion that has an upper surface that is sloped to a center drainage point to facilitate complete emptying. The pallet-base portion contains a valve arrangement fixed to either the fabric outer bag (in the film-lined configuration) or to the reinforced fabric bag, at the center drainage point. The collapsed frame provides a compact return package. Either bag configuration may be reused or replaced in whole or in part.
Abstract:
An apparatus for removing dust-containing or hazardous material from bags includes a vertical bag feeding chute having one or more vertically disposed knife blades fixed (no moving mechanical parts) in the chute to slice open the bag as it falls through the chute. The sliced bag is caught in a downwardly angled perforated basket disposed below the bag feeding chute where an operator operating through a glove box removes solid material from the interior of the sliced bag after most of the bag contents have fallen through the perforated receiving basket and into a mixing tank. The apparatus is particularly useful for debagging acrylamide monomer in the production of polyacrylamide homopolymers and copolymers.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for rapidly dispersing particles of dry, water soluble polymer into water wherein air, water and said polymer particles are introduced to a chamber for thorough contact of the polymer with the water to form a mixture of aqueous polymer dispersion and entrained air. The mixture is immediately subjected to shear forces to separate any agglomerated particles into individual particles, and to prevent further agglomeration.
Abstract:
A process for preparing high molecular weight water soluble polymer gels having relatively narrow molecular weight distributions is disclosed. An aqueous reaction mixture comprising a solution of a water soluble vinyl monomer and a suitable catalyst system is polymerized in a reactor comprising a tube or bag of an oxygen-impermeable film in the substantial absence of oxygen.
Abstract:
A method of rapidly dissolving particles of water soluble polymer gels in water. A suspension of gel particles is formed and subjected to conditions of high shear in a particle size reduction apparatus whereby finely sliced particles are formed and instantly dissolve in water. Sufficient water is present that heat is dissipated and molecular degradation of the polymer is avoided.
