An optical sensor has a glass base having a concave portion, and a glass lid is bonded to the base and overlies the concave portion to form an hermetically sealed cavity portion. A photoelectric conversion element is accommodated in the cavity portion. Internal wirings are each connected at one end to the photoelectric conversion element and extend through notches formed in a peripheral edge of the base. The other ends of the internal wirings are connected inside the notches to external wirings that extend along an outside surface of the base and terminate in external terminals.

In a structure where an electronic component is mounted on a glass base material, an external electrode is provided on an opposite side to the component mounted on the base, and a through electrode and the base are welded to each other at a temperature equal to or higher than a glass softening point, electrical conduction is ensured between the electronic component and the external electrode. An electronic device includes a base, a through electrode which pass through the base and has a metal film formed on both end surfaces after an insulating material on the surface is removed by polishing, an electronic component which is provided on one surface of the through electrode through a connection portion, an external electrode which is provided on an opposite side to a side of the base on which the electronic component is provided, and a cap which protects the electronic component on the base.

An electronic component capable of withstanding stress from a printed circuit board or the like is provided. In an electronic component, a cavity hermetically sealed by a base and a lid is formed. In the cavity, a crystal resonator is supported by a supporting member over the top surface of the base. The base is made of glass. A stress buffer layer made of a conductive resin or the like is formed over the whole bottom surface of the base. An external electrode and an external electrode that are in continuity with the electrodes of the crystal resonator individually extend to the bottom surface of the stress buffer layer via the side surfaces of the base and stress buffer layer. The thus configured electronic component is surface-mounted by, for example, soldering the external electrode and external electrode formed on the bottom surface of the stress buffer layer to a printed circuit board.

A reducing water purification material having a reducing iron-based precipitate selected from green rust, iron ferrite, reducing iron hydroxide, and a mixture thereof. A wastewater treatment process having steps of adding a reducing iron compound to wastewater, leading the wastewater to which the reducing iron compound is added to a reaction tank and forming a precipitate, separating the formed precipitate by a solid-liquid separation to obtain a sludge, and alkalinizing all or a portion of the separated sludge to form an alkaline sludge followed by returning to the reaction tank, wherein in the precipitation step, the wastewater to which the reducing iron compound is added and the alkaline sludge are mixed and are allowed to react in a non-oxidizing atmosphere under alkaline condition to form a reducing iron compound precipitate as the precipitate, thereby incorporating contaminants in the precipitate to remove the contaminants from the wastewater.

An improved brake system is provided for a vehicle including at least front and rear wheels. The brake system comprises a braking force generating mechanism, a brake lever assembly and a foot-operated brake pedal. The brake force generating mechanism applies a braking force to at least a front wheel or a rear wheel of the vehicle. The brake lever assembly includes a hand-operated lever and a force actuator. The force actuator moves between at least first and second positions so as to selectively actuate the brake force generating mechanism to produce a braking force. The force actuator interacts with the hand-operated lever such that movement of the hand-operated lever moves the force actuator from the first position to at least the second position. The force actuator also interacts with the brake pedal, which are coupled together by a cable. Movement the brake pedal also moves the force actuator from the first position to the second position.

An optical disk has a lead-in region provided at the inner circumference side and a user region provided at the outer circumference side. Pit string 3 of pits of different depths-is-formed-in-the-lead-in-region. Light beam reflected from the pit string is detected by detector and TPP and RF signals are output by differential amplifier and addition amplifier. A ternary signal is restored from pits based on the TPP and RF signals. Information is recorded by pits of the same depth in the user region. Recording information in the depth direction in the lead-in region increases the recording capacity thereof The information recorded in the depth direction in the lead-in region cannot be transferred to a user region of another optical disk.

In an air intake apparatus of an internal combustion engine, disassembling a surge tank made of resin with an intake air control valve into divided pieces, and bonding the divided pieces by vibration adhesion, for preventing the intake air control valve from breaking or characteristic thereof from changing during the vibration adhesion or for ensuring a sealing property between parts, an inner space in the surge tank is divided into first and second chambers by providing a horizontal partitioning wall within the surge tank. The surge tank is divided into a middle piece made of resin and formed integrally with the partitioning wall, a lower piece made of resin, and an upper piece also made of resin, and these three pieces are bonded by the vibration adhesion to form the surge tank. A communicating hole for making the first chamber communicate with the second chamber is formed in the partitioning wall, and a valve body for opening and closing the communication hole is provided in the communicating hole. A drive device for opening and closing the valve body is provided on the middle piece.

An optical device to control the output power of a laser on recording and reproduction without expensive high-speed circuits is provided. The optical disk device of the present invention comprises monitor portion for monitoring the power of laser light, averaged light quantity calculating portion for calculating the averaged light quantity of the power of the laser light, memory portion for memorizing the averaged light quantity, error quantity calculated portion for calculating the difference between the output signals of the averaged light quantity calculating portion and the memory portion, and laser power control portion for controlling the power of the laser light in response to the output signal from the error quantity calculating portion.
