Abstract:
A low modulus, one component, room temperature vulcanizable silicone elastomer which has very good oil resistance properties as well as high elongation. The silicone elastomer which has low volatility comprises a silanol terminated diorganosiloxane base polymer, a trimethylsilyl terminated diorganopolysiloxane, generally a tin catalyst, as well as a oxime crosslinking agent and specific low moisture fillers, usually calcium carbonate. The material is ideally suited as a gasket sealant as well as a formed-in-place gasket and can be utilized on internal combustion engines such as automotive engines as a sealant for an oil pan, valve cover, side seals and the like.
Abstract:
A titanium chelate catalyst for a room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber compositions which does not form nodules upon storage where the catalyst has the formula, ##STR1## where s varies from 0.7 to 1.3 and t varies from 0.7 to 1.3. Preferably s varies from 0.8 to 1.2 and t varies from 0.8 to 1.2.
Abstract:
An acetamide compound of the formula, ##STR1## where R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.4 are monovalent hydrocarbon radicals, and R.sup.3 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical.
Abstract:
There is provided a self-leveling silicone composition comprising(a) an acyloxy-terminated polydiorganosiloxane,(b) an effective amount of condensation catalyst, and(c) an amount of amine effective for rendering said composition self-leveling.
Abstract:
An acid scavenger additive for a one-component, acyloxy-functional RTV composition. The acid scavenger is selected from magnesium materials, zinc materials, and aluminum materials. The acid scavenger prevents a discoloration of the metallic substrate and a decrease in bonding properties of the RTV composition to the substrate on which it is applied.
Abstract:
A novel, shelf-stable, one-component alkoxy-functional RTV composition having therein as a scavenger an alkoxy-functional silazane compound. The silazane compound can be cyclic or linear and can also be an integrated cross-linking agent.
Abstract:
Stable, substantially acid-free, one package moisture curable polyalkoxy-terminated organopolysiloxane compositions are provided having a condensation catalyst such as a tin compound. A method for making the aforesaid moisture curable organopolysiloxane compositions, is also provided.
Abstract:
A devolatilized room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber composition comprising a silanol polymer, a plasticizing fluid, a cross-linking agent, a curing promoter and optionally, a filler wherein the plasticizing fluid and the silanol polymer are devolatilized prior to being mixed to form the room temperature vulcanizable silicone rubber composition by heating them at temperatures of at least 200.degree. C. under vacuum for at least 5 minutes. If there is utilized a filler and the filler is treated with cyclopolysiloxanes or silazanes, then preferably the filler is also devolatilized.
Abstract:
Self-bonding one-package room temperature vulcanizing silicone compositions, curable in the presence of moisture to rubbery materials, comprise(a) a silanol chain-stopped polydiorganopolysiloxane;(b) a fluid polysiloxane having a high degree of tri- and/or tetrafunctionality;(c) a silica filler;(d) a cross-linking silane evolving relatively low volatility carboxylic acid fragments on hydrolysis; and(e) a highly reactive tin-containing silanol condensation catalyst.Such compositions can be applied to a variety of difficulty bondable substrates. They are especially useful when subjected to hot oil environments, as in automobile engines. High temperature performance is markedly improved with the addition of an iron oxide thermal stabilizer. Gasketed constructions and methods for forming them are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Self-bonding, low modulus, one-package room temperature vulcanizing silicone compositions, curable in the presence of moisture, comprise (a) a silanol chain-stopped polydiorganopolysiloxane; (b) a cross-linking silane; and (c) a silanol reactive organometallic ester compound of a metal, the compound having radicals attached to the metal atom, at least one of the radicals being a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbonoxy radical, attachment being through M--O--C linkages, where M is the metal, and any remaining valences of M are satisfied by other organo radicals attached to M through such linkages, or an --OH, --O-- or M--O--M linkage, the weight ratio of components (c) to (b) always being at least 0.5 to 1. Such compositions have unusually high adhesion to a variety of difficulty bondable substrates.
