Abstract: An apparatus includes a photonic integrated circuit, which includes at least one splitter configured to split at least one input beam into multiple input beamlets and multiple phase modulators configured to phase-shift at least some of the input beamlets. The apparatus also includes an array of optical amplifiers configured to amplify the phase-shifted input beamlets and generate amplified beamlets. The apparatus further incudes a beam combiner configured to combine the amplified beamlets and generate an output beam. In addition, the apparatus includes a controller configured to control the phase modulators in order to adjust phasing of the phase-shifted input beamlets.

Abstract: A shock isolator includes slots in inner and outer parts that define flexures between the parts. The slots may include inner slots and outer slots that are offset from each other around a perimeter of the inner part. The shock isolator also includes stops that provide a mechanical limit on the movement of the flexures. The stops may be posts that extend from one of the parts into holes in the other of the parts. In another embodiment that stops may be extensions from one of the parts over portions of the other of the parts. The stops help in preventing plastic bending and/or fracture of the flexures due to stress.

Abstract: A method includes performing one or more behavioral tests of software code. Abstract: An apparatus includes a dichroic combiner array configured to combine multiple input optical beams and generate an output optical beam. The dichroic combiner array includes multiple mirrors and multiple dichroic filters. A first mirror is configured to reflect a first input optical beam towards a first dichroic filter, which is configured to combine the first input optical beam and a second input optical beam. A second mirror is configured to reflect a combined optical beam from the first dichroic filter to a second dichroic filter. A last dichroic filter is configured to generate the output optical beam. The apparatus also includes a beam dump array having multiple beam dumps configured to terminate stray optical energy. The stray optical energy includes at least one of: (i) optical energy reflecting from at least one of the dichroic filters and (ii) optical energy transmitted through at least one of the dichroic filters.

Abstract: A method of forming a convertible ink. The method includes: performing a polyol process with a metal salt, a capping agent and a solvent to produce encapsulated nanospheres in a first aqueous solution; reducing the amount of capping agent in the solution. The capping agent can be reduced by: adding solvent soluble with the capping agent and agitating the mixture via centrifugation to form a supernatant and a precipitate that includes the encapsulated nanospheres; removing the supernatant; adding a second solvent to the precipitate to form a second solution; agitating the second solution to form a second supernatant and a precipitate that includes the encapsulated nanospheres; and removing the second supernatant.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to forming an epitaxial layer of aluminum on an aluminum-nitride compound. The aluminum is epitaxially grown on the crystalline aluminum-nitride compound by maintaining temperature of a crystalline aluminum-nitride compound below a cluster-favoring temperature threshold within a vacuum chamber. Then, the crystalline aluminum-nitride compound is exposed to atoms of elemental aluminum for a predetermined time duration. The aluminum is epitaxially grown in this fashion for a predetermined time duration so as to produce a layer of epitaxial aluminum of a predetermined thickness. Such epitaxially-grown mono-crystalline aluminum has a lower resistivity than poly-crystalline aluminum.

Abstract: A radially-fed RF power combiner combines a plurality of input signals to generate a single fundamental-mode transverse electromagnetic (TEM) output. The combiner comprises a vacuum coaxial transmission line having a plurality of coaxial vacuum feedthroughs configured to receive the input signals. The feedthroughs are arranged radially around the vacuum coaxial transmission line. The inner conductive surface of the vacuum coaxial transmission line may comprise a cylindrical conductive base and a plurality of radially-aligned conductive ridges azimuthally distributed within a vacuum envelope of the vacuum coaxial transmission line. Each of the conductive ridges may be coupled to a center conductor of a corresponding one of the coaxial vacuum feedthroughs. The conductive ridges may have a taper to provide an increasing gap between the top of the conductive ridges and an outer conductive surface of the vacuum coaxial transmission line. The increasing gap may gradually transition the input signals from each coaxial vacuum feedthrough to quasi-TEM mode signals within the vacuum envelope allowing the quasi-TEM mode signals from each conductive ridge to spread azimuthally within the vacuum envelope and combine to generate a substantially pure TEM mode signal.

Abstract: A sensor data processing apparatus can be coupled to multiple image sensors of different types. The apparatus adjusts frame transmission rates based on the number of sensors and type of image data sourced by the sensors to optimize utilization of bandwidth on a number of transport channels. The apparatus can be configured to transport selected frames in the image data that are identified as critical frames at a higher rate than non-selected frames in the image data.
