Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a method of generating a population of neurons. This method involves providing a population of human glial progenitor cells: providing a recombinant genetic construct comprising (i) a promoter and/or enhancer for a gene which is selectively or specifically expressed by human glial progenitor cells, and (ii) a nucleic acid sequence encoding one or more neuronal reprogramming factors for producing neurons from glial progenitor cells, where the nucleic acid sequence is operably linked to the 3′ end of said promoter and/or enhancer to achieve expression of the one or more neuronal reprogramming factors; transfecting cells of the glial progenitor cell population with the recombinant genetic construct; and culturing the population after said transfecting under conditions suitable for neuron production from the transfected glial progenitor cells of the population. Also disclosed are methods of inducing the production of neurons, as well as recombinant genetic constructs.

Abstract: A computation node comprises an input, an output, a bistable node, comprising an input and an output, the output configured to have at least two equilibrium output voltages, a first buffer circuit, having an input and an output, the buffer input connected to the bistable node and the buffer output connected to the computation node, the buffer circuit configured to provide a first output voltage when a voltage at the buffer input is below a threshold, and a second output voltage when the voltage at the buffer input is above the threshold, and a current conveyor node having an input connected to the computation node and an output connected to the bistable node, the current conveyor configured to hold its input at a constant voltage and mirror current received at the input into the input of the bistable node. A network of resistively-coupled computation nodes is also described.

Abstract: Systems and methods of driving plate loudspeakers with different parameters based on frequency region in a way similar to typical cone driver crossover networks are described. These systems and methods may be implemented using arrays of independently controlled drivers which allow a designer to emphasize or de-emphasize certain modes in certain frequency bands. Tuning the characteristics of the plate's motion can also affect the acoustical properties in a larger space rather than just at a single location. The systems and methods described herein can grant a designer a degree of control over the characteristics and performance of the plate.

Abstract: Saving power in an extended-reality device can include rendering a video stream on a display, tracking an eye of a user observing the display, ascertaining a gaze direction of the eye based on tracking the eye, calculating a foveal region of the display based on ascertaining the gaze direction in relation to the display, and modulating color hues of the video stream for pixels of the display outside the foveal region, to reduce a power consumption of the display. Modulating color hues is based on human color discrimination and display power consumption correlated to pixel color.

Abstract: Features described herein pertain to generative machine learning, and more particularly, to machine learning techniques for generating virtual characters. A video that depicts a first subject and includes an audio component that corresponds to speech spoken by the first subject and an image that depicts a second subject are provided to and used by one or more machine learning models to generate a video that depicts the second subject. The second subject can blink and exhibit emotional characteristic and reactions that are responsive to the speech spoken by the first subject and/or a characteristic of the first subject such as a facial expression and/or head pose motion. The generated video can be displayed and/or stored where it can be later retrieved.
