Abstract: An optical sensing system includes an optical film and a transceiver configured to at least 5 one of emit and receive a first light toward an object through the optical film along a propagation direction making a first angle of greater than about 20 degrees in an air with a normal to the optical film. The first light has a first infrared wavelength in an infrared wavelength range extending from about 800 nm to about 2000 nm. For an incident light incident on the optical film in the air and having the first infrared wavelength and for at least one of mutually orthogonal first and second 10 polarization states, the optical film reflects at least 60% of the incident light at an incident angle of less than about 5 degrees, and transmits at least 40% of the incident light at an incident angle substantially equal to the first angle.

Abstract: An optical device for sensing a presence of an analyte in a person is provided. The optical device includes a light source, an optical stack, and a reader. The light source emits a first light having a first wavelength. The optical stack is placed on a skin of the person. The optical stack includes a sensor material and an optical filter. The sensor material emits a second light having a second wavelength when irradiated with the first light. An optical property of the second light is sensitive to the presence of the analyte. The optical filter is disposed on the sensor material and includes a plurality of microlayers numbering at least 10 in total. The optical filter has different first and second transmittances at the respective first and second wavelengths.

Abstract: A system may include one or both of a light emitter and a light receiver. The system may include an optical filter adjacent one or both of the light emitter or the light receiver. The optical filter includes a wavelength selective scattering layer. The wavelength selective scattering layer may have a near-infrared scattering ratio of less than about 0.9. The filter may have a visible reflective haze ratio of greater than about 0.5. A method may include disposing the wavelength selective scattering layer adjacent one or both of the light emitter and the light receiver. An article may include the optical filter. The wavelength selective scattering layer may have an average near-infrared scattering of less than 60%, an average visible scattering of greater than 10%, and a difference between the % total visible reflectance and the % diffuse visible reflectance of less than 20.

Abstract: A display system for sensing a user body portion, including a display panel configured to form an image for viewing by the user, an optical reflector having a plurality of polymeric layers, and at least one optical sensor for sensing a visible light having at least one visible wavelength and an infrared light having at least one infrared wavelength. The optical sensor senses the visible and infrared lights after the visible and infrared lights are transmitted by the optical reflector. The optical reflector has an average optical reflectance greater than 80% in the visible wavelength range, an optical transmittance greater than about 50% at the infrared wavelength, an optical transmittance of greater than about 2% and less than about 10% at the visible wavelength, and an optical transmittance versus wavelength with a bandpass segment having a full width at half maximum that includes the visible wavelength.

Abstract: An optical well is configured to receive a test sample for examining an optical characteristic of the sample at a first wavelength in a predetermined wavelength range. The optical well includes a wall having a bottom wall portion and a sidewall portion defining a chamber for receiving the test sample, and an optical film formed into a shape so that a portion of the sidewall portion includes a first portion of the optical film, and a portion of the bottom wall portion includes a second portion of the optical film. For a normally incident light, the microlayers in each of the first and second portions have an average optical reflectance of greater than about 80% in the predetermined wavelength range. The forming results in the plurality of microlayers of the integral formed optical film having a thinnest portion and a thickest portion having a thickness difference of at least 30%.
