    Abstract: A method for enabling communication over a cellular network between a first communication device of a first substation and a second communication device of a second substation. The substations are connected to a power transmission line. The method includes the steps of: receiving multicast communication from the first communication device, wherein the multicast communication including a plurality of multicast packets, and each multicast packet includes a phasor value associated with the first substation and a sequence number; receiving an acknowledgement from the second communication device, the acknowledgement including a plurality of sequence numbers of the most recently received multicast packets, that the second communication device has received from the first communication device; and determining a packet loss to the second communication device when there is a mismatch between the sequence numbers of the acknowledgment, when compared with the sequence numbers of the received multicast communication.

    Abstract: A method includes transmitting time-critical messages in an OSI layer 2 network tunnel from a first IED in a first substation to a second IED in a second substation over a WAN, wherein each of the first and second substation comprises an edge IED and is associated with a substation LAN, wherein each of the time-critical messages comprises message parameters. The method includes: creating a translation table comprising corresponding values of the message parameters, between the LANs and the WAN; defining a virtual IED in the second substation using the translated values of the message parameters, to impersonate the first IED; translating the message parameters according to the translation table, by the edge IED of the first and second substation; forwarding the time-critical messages from the first IED in the first substation to the WAN; and receiving the time-critical messages by the second IED in the second substation from the WAN.

    Abstract: An automation system includes a first system area including a transmitting redundancy handling device and a second system area including a receiving redundancy handling device. Device obtains a first communication protocol packet with automation application data and a sequence number linked thereto, extracts the sequence number and places it in a destination option header of a first IPv6 packet, which also includes the first communication protocol packet, sends packet to the receiving redundancy handling device, obtains a second communication protocol packet having the same automation application data and sequence number, places the sequence number in a destination option header of a second IPV6 packet also including the second communication protocol packet, and sends packet to device. Device receives the packets, analyses the destination option headers, determines that the sequence number is the same in the packets and discards the first or the second IPv6 packet based on the determination.
