Abstract: An apparatus for the implementation of a process for the continuous manufacturing of steel strips for packaging coated with a passivation layer is provided. An apparatus contains a transfer roller; a coating roller contacting the transfer roller, a surface of the coating roller having a plurality of hexagonally shaped cells with a line count being from 50 to 200 lines per centimeter and a volume being from 5·10−6 to 10·10−6 m3 per square meter of the coating roller surface; and a tank containing an aqueous passivation solution, the tank providing the aqueous passivation solution to the coating roller.

Abstract: A method for the fabrication of a steel product is provided. The method includes the steps of characterizing a layer of oxides present on a running steel substrate which includes providing a portion of the steel substrate comprising a layer of oxides and the portion defines an oxide surface, collecting light (Lr) from the oxide surface using a hyperspectral camera (20) in order to obtain intensity values (Iλ,M) respectively representative of an intensity of a part (Lrλ,M) of the collected light, each part being respectively collected from one of a plurality of points (M) located on the oxide surface and respectively has a wavelength (λ) from a plurality of wavelengths, comparing the obtained intensity values with reference intensity values obtained for reference oxides, and calculating amounts of reference oxides in the layer. A device for characterizing a layer of oxides present on a steel substrate is also provided.

Abstract: A process for measuring wear of a refractory lining of a receptacle intended to contain molten metal, containing the following steps: scanning a first surface of the refractory lining using a first laser scanner in order to obtain a first initial set of data representative of the first surface, scanning a second surface of the refractory lining using a second laser scanner, distinct from the first laser scanner, in order to obtain a second initial set of data representative of the second surface, wherein the second surface includes a grey zone for the first laser scanner, the receptacle defining an obstacle located between the first laser scanner and the grey zone during scanning by the first laser scanner, and calculating a final set of data using the first initial set of data and the second initial set of data, the final set of data being representative of a surface of the refractory lining including the first surface and the second surface.

Abstract: A process for continuous manufacturing of steel strips for packaging coated with a passivation layer is provided. The layer is an aqueous passivation solution, the thickness of which is less than 3 μm and the viscosity of which is less than 1.5·10−3 Pa·s at 20° C., and is deposited on one of the faces of the strip. This depositing is carried out by a transfer roller in contact with the strip and with a second coating roller, the surface of which has a plurality of hexagonally shaped cells, the line count of which is between 50 and 200 lines per centimeter, and the total volume of which is between 5·10−6 and 10·10−6 m3 per square meter of roller surface. The coating roller is fed with aqueous passivation solution by dipping in a tank equipped with wiping means and the strip runs at a speed greater than or equal to 400 m/m. An apparatus for implementation of the process is also provided.
