Abstract: A radio head includes a standalone small cell configured to receive a plurality of IP packets over a series of sequential sub-frames, and generate a bandwidth report for each of the plurality of received IP packets. The radio head further includes a radio link control unit configured to sum a received bandwidth report with segmentation induced noise for each of the plurality of received IP packets, and an adaptive filter configured to apply a filter weight to each of the series of sequential sub-frames. The applied filter weight is based on (i) an output of the radio link control unit for a previous sub-frame, and (ii) an output of the adaptive filter for the previous sub-frame.

Abstract: A communications network includes a central communication unit, an optical transport medium, and a plurality of remote radio base stations. The central communication unit generates, within a selected millimeter-wave frequency band, a plurality of adjacent two-tone optical frequency conjugate pairs. Each conjugate pair includes a first optical tone carrying a modulated data signal, and a second optical tone carrying a reference local oscillator signal. The optical transport medium transports the plurality of two-tone conjugate pairs to the plurality of radio base stations, and each base station receives at least one conjugate pair at an optical front end thereof. The optical front end separates the first optical tone from the second optical tone, and converts the first optical tone into a millimeter-wave radio frequency electrical signal. The base station further includes a radio antenna system for wirelessly transmitting the millimeter-wave radio frequency electrical signal to at least one wireless receiving device.

Abstract: A method is provided for detecting an access zone configuration of a downlink wireless transmission received from a wireless network by a receiver. The method includes steps of activating the receiver, synchronizing the receiver with the wireless network, detecting, by the receiver after the step of synchronizing, a received access zone of the downlink wireless transmission, determining a base symbol of the detected access zone, ascertaining a first gap and a second gap from repetitive information contained within the determined base symbol, concluding, from the ascertained first and second gaps, that the detected access zone is part of a multiple access zone configuration, and registering, after the step of concluding, the receiver with the wireless network.

Abstract: A wireless communications system provides coordinated multi point transmission over a channel of a wireless transmission medium. The system includes a central controller having a processor and a memory, a first cell region having a first communications node disposed therein, and a plurality of neighboring cell regions disposed about the first cell region. Each of the plurality of neighboring cell regions includes a second communications node disposed therein. The system includes a plurality of user equipment devices disposed within an overlapping region of the first cell region and one of the neighboring cell regions. The central controller is configured to assign the first communications node to be an anchor transmission point of a coordinated set of transmission points. The anchor transmission point is configured to perform carrier sensing on the channel. The coordinated set of transmission points includes the first communications node and at least one second communications node.

Abstract: A method for detecting a channel occupancy time declared by an interfering device in a wireless communication system includes (a) receiving a first radio frequency (RF) transmission from a base station at a user equipment (UE) device, (b) detecting failure to receive a second RF transmission from the base station at the UE device, and (c) in response to detecting the failure to receive the second RF transmission from the base station, causing the UE device to operate in a sleep mode. Another method for detecting a channel occupancy time declared by an interfering device in a wireless communication system includes (a) receiving a first RF transmission from a base station at a UE device, (b) detecting, at the UE device, an interfering RF transmission, and (c) in response to detecting the interfering RF transmission, causing the UE device to operate in a sleep mode.

Abstract: A wireless communication node includes a receiving portion configured to detect, over a wireless communication channel, a request to send (RTS) message from a transmitting station within a communication vicinity of the wireless communication node. The RTS message includes at least one duration field. The wireless communication node further includes a processor configured to (i) calculate an estimated time parameter, (ii) add the estimated time parameter to a current timestamp of the wireless communication node, and (iii) form a control packet from the RTS message, the at least one duration field, and the estimated time parameter. The wireless communication node further includes a transmitting portion configured to transmit over the wireless communication channel (i) a clear to send (CTS) message the transmitting station, and (ii) the control packet to a modem in operable communication with the wireless communication channel.
