Abstract: In a subcutaneous microphone used in medical devices, a structure is introduced that constrains the motion of the diaphragm during normal operation of the microphone. In one embodiment, a raised portion, such as a pole or pillar is placed in the chamber at the middle of the diaphragm. The raised portion may contact one or both of the bottom surface of the chamber and the underside of the membrane, and generally acts to reduce the amount of deflection experienced by the membrane.

Abstract: An external portion of an auditory prosthesis includes an external magnet that interacts with an implantable magnet to hold the external portion against the skin. Magnetic force generated by the stray field of these magnets can disturb the operation of a vibrating element of the auditory prosthesis. The technologies described herein utilize additional magnets disposed within portions of the auditory prosthesis to redirect the magnetic flux, which allows the vibrating element to be disposed more closely to the magnets, reducing the overall height profile of the prosthesis.

Abstract: A passive vibration cancellation system manufactured of a plurality of waterproof diaphragms and a more rigid support structure is sized to cover a microphone of an auditory prosthesis. The system includes multiple flexible diaphragms that deform in opposite directions when acted upon by sound, but deform in the same direction when acted upon by vibrations. The system can further include a collar or other compliant element to help secure a microphone assembly into the auditory prosthesis housing, while further reducing vibration transmission between the housing and the microphone.
