Abstract:
A drawing tool is provided for assisting artists in transcribing images onto a blank medium. The device is a drawing frame of geometrical shape and has a plurality of notches disposed along the outer perimeter length. These notches are channels cut out of the edge, forming protruding segments between any two notches. Protruding segments are used as anchor sites for a series of elastic threads. A portion of the threads is wound around protruding segments disposed on opposing dies of the frame body, thereby stretching the elastic thread across the front surface of the frame body. A first grouping of the threads is secured in parallel lateral alignment, while a second group is secured in a parallel longitudinal alignment. This configuration presents a grid pattern that can be laid over an image or blank piece of paper to serve as a guide for transcription.
Abstract:
A fabric including a first layer of high-performance unidirectional yarns and a second layer of high-performance unidirectional yarns disposed transversely to the first layer. The fabric also includes warp and fill encapsulating yarns woven around the unidirectional yarns to substantially stabilize the unidirectional yarns. The encapsulating yarns have tenacities and tensile moduli substantially less than the tenacities and tensile moduli of the unidirectional yarns. The fabric has a cover factor between approximately 0.75 and approximately 1.50.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a geodesic radome comprising shaped panels containing a consolidated plurality of plies, the plies comprising polyolefin tapes, wherein the shaped panels have a compressive strength of between 10 MPa and 100 MPa, an interlaminar shear strength of between 3 MPa and 75 MPa and a thermal expansion of between 1e−6 1/K and 50e−6 1/K.
Abstract:
Provided are methods of measuring analyte concentrations in interstitial fluid samples, methods of determining accuracy of subcutaneously implantable analyte sensors, methods of manufacturing and determining calibration factors for subcutaneously implantable analyte sensors, as well as subcutaneously implantable analyte sensors manufactured according to the described methods and having a high level of accuracy. Methods of determining the concentration of an analyte in a bodily sample, and methods of extracting interstitial fluid are also provided.
Abstract:
Apparatus for monitoring cardiac contractility comprises a catheter having a tip for insertion into the ventricle of the heart muscle. At or proximate the tip is an acceleration transducer responsive to the natural, multi-directional heart acceleration to provide an acceleration signal to a signal processor. The apparatus is arranged to suppress frequencies outside the range approximately 15 Hz to approximately 100 Hz.

Abstract:
Executing a map reduce sequence may comprise executing all jobs in the sequence by a collection of a plurality of processes with each process running zero or more mappers, combiners, partitioners and reducers for each job, and transparently sharing heap state between the jobs to improve metrics associated with the job. Processes may communicate among themselves to coordinate completion of map, shuffle and reduce phases, and completion of said all jobs in the sequence.
Abstract:
A new and improved method of dispensing, tracking and managing pharmaceutical product samples by communicatively linking prescribers and pharmacies to a central computing station. The present invention entails utilizing product trial media that is exchanged for actual pharmaceutical product. The media is encoded with information that identifies a particular pharmaceutical trial product, such as by magnetic encoding similar to that used with credit cards. The media is distributed to participating medical doctors or prescribers who then activate the media via the central computing station. The prescriber then transfers the activated media to patients who then present the media to participating pharmacies. Before filling the pharmaceutical trial product identified by the media, the pharmacy validates the media via a link with the central computing station. Then, the pharmacy dispenses the prescribed pharmaceutical trial product. The central computing station also includes a database that records data related to the use of the media so that all pharmaceutical trial products can be accounted for.
Abstract:
The subject invention provides purified polypeptides encoded by naturally-occurring wild-type platelet glycoprotein Ib alpha having a mutation which renders the polypeptide more reactive with von Willebrand factor. Preferably, the mutation is in the hinge region of GP Ib.alpha., such as the substitution of valine for glycine at residue 233. These mutations alter the three-dimensional structure of the mutant polypeptide from a beta bend conformation to an alpha helix formation, and also create an amphipathic region within the mutant polypeptide. DNA encoding the mutant polypeptides, as well as expression systems for the production of the mutant polypeptides, are also provided. Methods and compositions using the mutant polypeptides and DNA oligomers complementary to the mutant polypeptides are further provided.
