Abstract:
An apparatus and related method for controlling a load on a human ankle joint during normal gait while preserving motion. The approach is intended to treat osteoarthritis and pain of the ankle without substantially resisting an angular displacement associated with full mobility of the ankle joint. In one particular embodiment, the device includes a first load transmission support, a second load transmission support and an implantable compressible absorber.
Abstract:
An apparatus and related method for controlling a load on a human hip joint during normal gait while preserving motion. The approach is intended to treat osteoarthritis of the hip without substantially resisting an angular displacement associated with full mobility of the pelvis and femur bones.
Abstract:
A method, computer program product, and system for de-centralized stream processing is provided. The method may include providing a plurality of processing nodes in a hierarchical genome having a plurality of levels, wherein each of said processing nodes is configured to transmit and receive a stream of data. The method may further include restricting a subset of the plurality of processing nodes from differentiating into a role within each level of the hierarchical genome. The method may also include identifying a failure at one of the processing nodes and replacing the failed node with one of the processing nodes from the restricted subset.
Abstract:
A method of and system for handling latency issues encountered in producing real-time entertainment such as games of skill synchronized with live or taped televised events is described herein. There are multiple situations that are dealt with regarding latencies in receiving a television signal with respect to real-time entertainment based on the unfolding games played along with the telecasts. Systemic delays, arbitrarily imposed delays of a broadcast signal and variances in the precise broadcast times of taped television programs have to be equalized so as to provide fair entertainment.
Abstract:
A cleaning apparatus includes an elongated housing bounding a chamber with a motor disposed therein. A drive shaft is at least partially disposed within the chamber of the housing, the drive shaft being coupled with the motor such that during selective operation of the motor the drive shaft is rotated. A hub having a rotational axis about which the hub rotates is coupled with the drive shaft such that rotation of the drive shaft facilitates rotation of the hub. A cleaning head is removably coupled with the hub such that rotation of the hub causes rotation of the cleaning head. A disengaging system is movable between a first position where the cleaning head is securely engaged to the hub and a second position where the cleaning head is freely removable from the hub.
Abstract:
A stent crimping assembly is provided for crimping a stent from a first diameter to a reduced second diameter. The crimping assembly includes a plurality of movable wedges disposed about a rotational axis to form a wedge assembly. Each wedge includes a respective first side and a second side converging to form a tip portion. The tip portions are arranged to collectively form an iris about the rotational axis thereof. The iris defining a crimp aperture about which the movable wedges are disposed. Each wedge is associated with a stationary structure and an rotational actuation unit such that during rotation of the actuation unit about the rotational axis, the iris is caused to rotate about the rotational axis, relative the stationary structure, for inward movement of the wedges to decrease the size of the aperture and outward movement of the wedges to increase the size of the aperture.

Abstract:
A stent crimping apparatus is provided which includes a crimping assembly adapted to crimp the stent, a clamp assembly configured to secure the medical device; and a control unit configured to control the movement of the crimp assembly. The clamp assembly includes a lower clamp device defining a seating groove formed and dimensioned to seat a portion of the medical device therein, and a retaining assembly having an elastomeric member. This elastomeric member defines a contacting groove oriented in an opposed manner proximate to at least a portion of the seating groove. The clamp assembly further includes an actuation mechanism associated with the retaining assembly and the lower clamp device such that operation thereof causes the retaining assembly to move between an opened condition and a closed condition. In the opened condition, the medical device can be positioned between the lower clamp device and the retaining assembly, and in the closed condition, retaining the medical device between the contacting groove of the elastomeric member and the seating groove of the lower clamp device.
Abstract:
A machine and process for commercial and industrial food waste densification and removal combining a leak proof trailer, a densification system, a trash container, and a dumping mechanism, into a unified collection apparatus. An organic waste generator such as a restaurant can easily store large amounts of its organic liquid and semi-liquid refuse and wastes onsite until the unit is full, then a trash hauler can transport this waste in the leak proof trailer to a municipal landfill or other processing location.
Abstract:
Combinatorially generated peptides are provided that have binding affinity for polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The peptides may be used to deliver benefit agents to various PMMA surfaces.
