Abstract: A system for an electrical power distribution network receives electricity from one or more distributed energy resources. The system includes a voltage regulation device configured to maintain a voltage in the electrical power distribution network within a range of voltages, the voltage regulation device including a voltage sampling module configured to obtain an indication of a voltage in the electrical power distribution network; and a control system coupled to the voltage regulation device, the control system configured to: determine a metric related to a time rate of change of the voltage in the power distribution network based on at least two samples of the voltage in the electrical power distribution network obtained at different times; and change at least one operating parameter and/or an operating mode of the voltage regulation device based on the determined rate of change of the voltage.

Abstract: A control system for a voltage regulation device is configured to determine a tap position of a tap changing mechanism of the voltage regulation device, the control system being configured to: determine an internal impedance of the voltage regulation device based on an initial tap position; determine a voltage of the internal impedance based on a measured load current; determine a voltage of the first winding based on the input voltage, the output voltage, and the voltage of the internal impedance; and determine the tap position based on the voltage of the first winding, N, and a voltage of a second winding, where N is an integer value that represents a count of turns on the second winding.

Abstract: A control system includes a data monitoring module configured to: obtain one or more status indicators of a voltage regulation system, each status indicator corresponding to an operating parameter of the voltage regulation system; determine a state value of each status indicator at a second time; compare the state value of each status indicator to a state value for that status indicator at a first time, the first time occurring before the second time; determine whether any operating parameter of the voltage regulation system changed state based on the comparison; and if any operating parameter of the voltage regulation system changed state, store a record in a dataset, the record including the state value of all of the status indicators and a time stamp that includes the second time.
